new very old eureka vacuum??

I had to go run look at my 2080, the green base, green shiny bag it has those little dents and the Edge Kleener decals on it.
My 2073 gold base, gold bag, no cordaway has the dents but the decals could be missing

My light blue 2070 upright automatic doesn't have the dents.

Well technically so Jack but the mid-century ones (like me) much like the convertibles do have their charms. Especially the all metal ones.

Eureka didn't sell these in the UK did they like Hoover did with the Convertibles?

I kinda like them a little more than the convertibles but I can't really say why that is. It just is and that's it.

Hi Pete - I didn't mean to imply the later Eurekas were in any way without their own charm and appeal, I was just amused by the 'very old' description, considering how long Eureka have been producing vacuum cleaners! Like when I see 'vintage Hoover Turbopower' on eBay - they were made within my own lifetime, and I'd like to hope I'M not vintage...yet!

No, as far as I know, Eureka never sold these sort of uprights in the UK. The first time I really saw a few close-up was at the convention last year!

I know that the UK had some canned-ham Vibra-Beat Mobile-Air

in the 1960's, but they were Eurekas hiding behind some other brandname like Piedmont or something like that. Would love to see a photo of that UK Eureka vac.

Pete, thanks for the visuals and the info. I am now really confounded as to why the Edge Kleeners ended up on the TOL 2080 but not on the MOL 2070.

Maybe the presence or lack of Edge Kleeners did not in fact affect the model number? Who knows.......wish I had some Eureka catalogues from the 70's right about now.......

We had the canned-ham canister as The Parnall (or Parnell?) Vibra-Beat...I don't think I have a picture of one, or I'd post it, but I know I've seen pictures of them before - perhaps one of the other UK guys could help here?

Well it's hardly what you can call an edge kleener anyways. I'm still puzzled by the Edge cleaning claim on the Roto-matic power nozzles that have nothing underneath at all and brushes that are about 1/2 inch away from the edge on both sides.

I brought that FNWB (fairly new with box)Eureka VibraBeat model 1010 that I found JUST before the convention last fall.

In fact I dislike it so much I've never used it since...the vacuum I have, but the Vibra-Beat I have not. I've found VibraBeat makes alot of noise, but isn't all that when it comes down to it. All bark, no bite.

The machine is very powerful tho, and while the hose is orig, the hose also leaks just enough where you can tell the difference from the suction end at the canister, and the attachment end. Someday I will ask Dear Friend Dave to assist me, or give me pointers on how to properly latex the innards of the hose, to renew the NEW suction strength.

You're right I think I had it on for like five minutes, then shut it down. LMAO, the noisiest thing to come out of a vacuum factory ever.

I was just gonna say...

I will bring the latex fixings and do a hose or two. Vinyl weave works best and is undetectable. Cloth weave is second choice as while not unsightly, the latex will seep through to the cotton threads and impart a slight darkening of the weave. But latex does dry and cure clear. On the vinyl weave hose the leached latex will simply rub off the vinyl leaving no exterior trace. Solid plastic or vinyl coil? - buy a new hose.

We'll start when folks arrive - take about 20 minutes for the preparation, pour, drain and pressure impregnation and mop up, then we hang the hose vertical from the basement rafters with a running warm vacuum exhaust blowing through it - and by the middle of the afternoon it'll be cold cured and testable. All we need is one exhausted vacuum for each hose we do for the initial dry setting process, about an hour on warm exhaust.

bring a hose and we'll do'er, too.

Guess there's no need to bring along a Vibrabeat nozzle. LOL

Thanks so much for this link about the Cordaway Upright,,,this seller is less than 20 miles from where i live, so, i e-mailed them to find out if the machine is for sale,,,if so, i will get it!
Have never owned a Eureka Upright before,,it takes F&G bags im assuming?
Also, what kind of belt? Im assuming any vac shop should have them? Do they have a special name or model number?
What tips can you tell me about maintaining it, fresh bag, new belt, plenty of bristles on the brushroll, make sure its not missing any fan blades, ect? (im a Kirby man, so, if im dumb about Eureka's, you'll have to forgive me!), But im assuming all the things that are true of a Vintage Kirby also apply to a vintage Eureka.

You are correct Brian, The bags are F&G, and the belt is the round type like the Convertible only a bit bigger in circomferance. Wally world should have the bags and belts, they usualy do at mine but sometimes i have to order online from wally. Not much maintainence at all like you said a new bag,belt and no missing fan blades lol. Mabe a little wipe down now and then.

Yes, it does, thanks Kenny! I called the seller, and am going to pick up the machine tonite after work!
Will let you know what kind of condition its really in after i get it home and play with it a little.
Turns out this seller lives less than 15 miles from me, HA,,guess it pays to be on the look out!
I just hope someone hasnt vacuumed up pet droppings or vomit with it!
A buddy of mine that owns a Vac service and supply center says you wouldnt believe the things people will vacuum up,,,especially with older vacs.
He opened up an old Rainbow D2 once where someone had vacuumed up ROTTING FISH GUTS and STINK BAIT after cleaning out an old fishing shack,,,,and couldnt understand what was wrong with their Rainbow! It always worked before!!! - GEEEEZ!

Got the Eureka!! The seller delivered it to my door!
It does need bags, of course, and a new belt,,,are there any special tricks to putting a new belt on this Eureka?
Again, you'll have to forgive my stupidity,,i know virtually nothing about Eureka Uprights.
The vac looks to be in very good clean condition.
The seller said it belonged to his eldery mother that just went into a rest home,,and she kept very good care of all of her posessions. There were no attachments. And it is a 2 speed.
The Cordaway is nice and tight,,but the plug has been replaced at some point.
There is hardly a scratch or nick on the vacuum anywhere, and the brushroll is in excellent condition.
I think its a VG1? Its golden brown in color, with the red beater bars. The brush bristles are long and full, so, im assuming that means it has seen little use, for being as old as it is.
Im anxious to get bags and belts for it, and give it a go!

IIRC, the vibra groomers are bars with actual dents in the brush for the beaters. I dont think they have beater strips like on a hoover.

Who knows? I dont!

Oh I think you're gonna like it and even in the picture it looks pretty unscathed. They have such a nice sound to them I think, unmistakeably a Eureka sound
