Slowly drifting to machine tools now

Nice machine, Steve.... :-) Here's a pic of my (embarrassingly modern) 'New' machine. The chuck standing on the bed is a 6" and is there just for scale. The mounted chuck is a 4". The Milling Head can be swung out of the way when not in use, and also can be raised another 4" to accommodate larger work. The machine has a 16" swing, but with a 1hp motor wouldn't be much use with anything of that size... :-( It's about 23" between centres, and cuts imperial AND metric threads.

All best

Cone pully drives

@super-sweeper:

Like many of my older machines, the Acme is driven by a laminated wood cone pully matched to the 3 step cone on the headstock. I make the blanks for these from plywood disks bored to fit what I'm using for the counter-shaft, then they are turned to provide proper belt tension in all positions.
