some sad central vacuum news

Looks like Drainvac has discontinued their Atomik unit, so anyone who has one of these now has a part of vacuum history. They are really nice units, portable with a handle on top to make carrying them easier but they could also be connected to pipes. I've heard them described as looking kind of like a Filter Queen. I wonder why they discontinued it, if it just wasn't selling or if there was another reason.

amp draw on my two new units

I looked at the amp draw for these two 120 volt dual motor units. According to the specs on the web site, the amp draw for the Drainvac Turbo is 15.50, and the max amp draw for the Galaxie GA-200 is 14.5. That would mean each motor is only pulling around 7 amps, that seems very low for a central vacuum motor, based on the sound, they don't sound like small motors at all. I'm guessing that both of these units have the motors in series since they only have one exhaust pipe. That would mean that each motor on the Drainvac Turbo has around 80 water lift and 145 CFM and each motor on the Galaxie GA-200 has around 80 water lift and 196 CFM.

I have a NuTone dual motor central unit that runs from 120V.Each motor is 6A.Electrcally they are in parallel-airpaths are in series.Looks like I will have to find a source of bags for my Atomik. It is a nice little machine.Perfect for car cleaning.I want bags that don't have the dumb zipper on them that tries to open when the machine is in use.I duct tape the zippers closed! When the bag fills-like any other-just throw it out and replace with a new one.

Mine did when I tried the mainden run of my Atomic-So I duct tape the zippers closed.Would like to see these bags WITHOUT the zippers-this type of bag material wasn't intended to be reused.I can do several car cleanings-then the bag has to be replaced.

split canister units

So, wondering if anyone knows how a split central vacuum works. I came across a bagged split canister system that uses two 7.2 motors in parallel. In these systems, the motor unit is one part and the part that would hold the bag is separate, but how does that work? How do the two parts connect together, just by using a piece of central vacuum pipe? Does the exhaust end up coming out of the motor unit or the part that holds the bag? This is one type of central vacuum I have never seen but it sounds interesting and this one sounds like quite a beast.

Central Vac International uses the modular system-a canister that holds the cloth bag and disposalble bags and a filter. The motor units-you can use one or two connect to the canister unit with sections of vac pipe. The motors are 12.8A each 120V.The vac dealer here carries MD and Central Vac International. If you want a Central Vac International system it has to be mounted on a wall. Not standalone units as others are.
