I haven't been buying vacuums much lately because 1: I'm trying to save money for college and 2: The vacuums I keep finding at the curb are keeping me busy. However, I saw a bunch on vacuums listed in one ad on Craigslist, and I saw this Riccar far off to the left. I tried to resist, but I eventually texted them. They accepted my $35 offer and I picked it up last night. According to the seller, it was her grandmother's and the rest of the machines were Rainbow trade ins (she worked for a Rainbow dealer). It works great. I'm currently corresponding with a friend to get me the parts I need to make it 100% again: a new hose, attachment clip, Hepa filter, and brush strips. I may replace the cord as well.

Nice grab, I always liked the color on that model. These are excellent vacuums, especially with a lifetime belt. I wish the Simplicity version of this was still being made.

Not every Riccar and Simplicity are the same vacuums with a different name and color, there's quite a difference on the upright models.

The tandem air, the direct air models, and the R20 or S20 models just have parts that are molded different but those have nothing to do with performance.

The clean air uprights between the Riccar and Simplicity are different with the exception of the R20 and S20 models. They also have parts that are molded different but far more different such as the handle (Both the top and carry handle) and the wheels. Riccar has wheels on the body of the vacuum, just like the Panasonic uprights where the nozzle floats on the carpet. Simplicity has wheels on the nozzle of the vacuum with a spring wheel, just like the Hoover Dial-A-Matics where the nozzle doesn't float nearly as much and it does a better job on carpets, especially under furniture. This was one of the main reasons why the vacuum store that I worked for chose to carry Simplicity over Riccar. Riccar now has the R20 models that uses the same wheel design as the Simplicity.
