new Vacuum find

A co-worker of Mark's brought this machine to me to see if I would tell him what it is worth.

I couldn't believe what great shape it is in. The man said his grandmother used it three times and put it back in the box, she did not like it.

Now the task of telling him what it could be worth and the best way to get rid of it. I would take it...but I don't want to spend the money I think he could get on Ebay or Craigs list.

So I'd say this set could be valued somewhere between those extremes. But again, it's impossible to predict. If only one or two people are interested, the bidding could remain lukewarm. If a couple of "I HAVE to have it" buyers get into a bidding war, it might go even higher than the NIB set!!</span>

The plastic parts would indicate something newer...like what yr, if I may ask?

If it's barely used and in like-new condition, then I'd say a good $250 to $350, depending on who's buying...

It certainly looks very nice, the nozzle looks as though it could do with a light polish, but that's about it, definitely a nice example of a HeritageII...

<span style="font-size: large;">I believe it to be from around the year 1984.  It looks like it just came out of the box new.  The pictures don't do it justice.  It is pretty shiny for a vacuum that is 27 years old.</span>


 


<span style="font-size: large;">The crevice tool and hose may have been the only attachments that were used.  The underside of the machine is flawless and the back of the rug nozzle.   The cord is so soft and supple...must have been something new for that year.</span>


 


<span style="font-size: large;">I put a Micron Magic Bag in it from my Ultimate G.  Works great, filters great...it will make someone a fine vacuum.</span>

Looks to be about a 1996 model. The hose for that one still had the metal end. the 1997 model came with the new angled end. I have a 1997 model and traded the hose for the one pictured with metal attachament end.

Sorry it is 1986 model Mine is a 1987 model. I've been all over the calendar as late and jumped 10 yrs ahead.

prior to 1986 the head on the Heritage II was like the head on the the Heritage Model (Grey trim Orange bag). Tradition, Classic III, Classic Omega and the Classic 1970. the classic was the firt to have the 16" head and the head wrapping around the wheels. the Head on the Heritage II changed in 1985 to the trim line head and the following year the hose changed to molded ends with the angeled attachament ferrel.

Also check the Serial # and post it here we can confirm it from that. the fist 3 to 4 numbers will tell you I.E 489....... would be april of 1989 1186......... would be November 1986 There is a chance it may not be the original hose which doesn't matter but that is how I came up with 1986 based on what the attachament end looked like.

I traded the hose with the molded end for one with the metal end. At that time the molded end was a little larger than it is today and using it made my hand ache. For some reason I just couldn't get a comfortable grip. I was used to the metal ends and prefered it so I traded it out.
Todays molded ends and the same on the Ledgend II I have no trouble using.

It is a nice machine. I have given mine a work out. I wish I had a heavy buffer like is used at the plant to restore that new mirror like shine. I can buff it out but not to the degree that can be done with right buffer. Flintz metal polish works well and I do have compound and buffing wheels for a grinder you run off a compressor. It does do a nice job at that.

I got the year right after the second try. LOL Mine was built in January of 87 I keep getting my G 5 and Heritage II confused. I almost typed 97 AGAIN.

I too use the micron magic bags. Those are the "economy" bags but work very well. the original style 3 worked well I put them to the test one night at a church. Kids set off a powder chemical fire exstinquisher. in a 3,000 sq ft rec hall half comercial level loop carpet half vinyl tile. I put the bagged sytem from my Heritage II on a 1970 kirby classic and vacuumed all the flooring with it set up as an upright carpet and tile from one end to the other. I collected about 90% of the powder on one bag. Shook bag like it was dump out bag several times as i was cleaning. Put a clean bag in and vacuumed all the carpet going back the other way again shaking the bag from time to time. Those bag traped the dust in the bag with very very little escaping to the outer bag. Dust mopped and wet mopped the tile and cleaned any ledges. I was IMPRESSED with the disposable bag system. That powder will go thru a shake out bag almost as if there wasn't any thing to stop it. Todays micron magic bags are even better. I sanded walls in my kitchen after skim coating with dry wall compound. Another fine dust. Those bags worked great. Again I shook the bag down once in a while and I didn't loose so much suction that I didn't need to change it. And I had about half of that bag full by the time I finished sanding the walls. Again I was amazed. My Kirbys get confused at times they are not sure if they are home vacuums or shop vacuums.

It is a great machine I have gotten 24 years out of mine and it is still going strong. I have never regetted making the purchase. Of course I have been around the machines all my life so I knew of the quality and performance of the machine. I did get to use one about 2 yrs older than mine and liked it. When the opportunity came around to buy a new Kirby I went ahead.
