Hi Everyone,

My mom is looking for a new upright and I have been researching several models. She prefers bagless, but I am trying to steer her away from that as it seems like anything of quality has a bag. She is hard on equipment, so something that is commercial would also probably do well. It must have attachments on board. I've looked at the following brands:

Titan
Riccar
Aerus
Sebo
Miele
Lindhaus

The house is a mix of carpet and hard floors. We do have one small dog, but she doesn't really shed. Price is not necessarily a factor, just something that will last. I tried to talk her into a Kirby, but she doesn't like all the fuss to use the attachments. If anyone could offer any advice or other brands, that would be great. Thanks!

Out of all the brands from that list, Lindhaus hands down! The Healthcare Pro is what I would highly suggest to try out, in my opinion the best overall upright on the market today.

Sebo Felix

I would suggest the Sebo Felix. It is a very well made upright cleaner and since the house has both hard floors and carpet, this vacuum will work great for that. You can use the power head for carpets, and attach the hard floor brush for cleaning the hard floors. It also has a hose that you can pull out and use with attachments. The Felix is one of the best, if not the best uprights that is available.

I am now thinking about the Perfect DM101 or Clean Obsessed CO101, which are just rebaged Aerus/Electrolux uprights with onboard tools. I think that my mom will like the drop-in bag if I can drag her away from the bagless. She tends to break things when removing them, so something where a door has to be taken off to change the bag might be fragile in the future.

Like in that first video I just shared here, it's not only an upright. It's also a canister, a carpet cleaner, a blower, and a hard floor cleaner. Sounds similar to what a Kirby would do. But unlike a Kirby, the Lindhaus is easier to use, it's cheaper, it would have better filtration, I can do a faster job cleaning with it, and it's a clean-air/bypass motor design so I wouldn't damage the Lindhaus by picking up nuts or screws like in that first video.

Also unlike the other brands you've listed. Both the Titans and Kirbys uses a rubber belt that stretches out. Both the Riccar tandem air uprights and Kirbys uses fans that can break if you sucked up stuff that you shouldn't like nuts or screws. Both the Aerus and Kirbys (And at least one Riccar upright) are VERY expensive. Both the Mieles and Kirbys are heavy beasts. Both the Aerus and Mieles don't have manual height adjusters. I mean I could go on and on here. Now one thing to note about Miele is that they have since discontinued their upright line. But out of all the upright vacuums that I've used, repaired, and collected in the vacuum field, the Lindhaus Healthcare Pro is what I like the most. Sebo also makes great vacuums too. The Felix is also an excellent option as what that other user has suggested. But personally, I like Lindhaus just slightly better than Sebo.

Anyways, those are my two cents here. Wish you the best of luck on your choice!

I’m off to try the Lindhaus tomorrow! Hopefully the dealer has some in stock. He doesn’t list them on his regular website, but Lindhaus does list him as a dealer.

I'm sure Sebos are good. I've never used one. Does the Felix store the attachments on board? I had a Miele and I enjoyed using it. It had a full set of separate attachments. Not the combination tool junk.

I haven't watched all the video but this channel does a fairly good job of comparing uprights. At least in my opinion.

Well, I got to at least try a couple Riccars and the Sebo Dart, X4, and G4. The build quality on the Riccar wasn't bad and the X4 and G4 were really nice. The Dart and Felix seemed a little lightweight to me.

I drove 1.5 hours to the nearest Aerus dealer that was supposed to be open today and when I got there all of the lights were off. I knew I should have called first. Ticked me off. The first dealer did have a Lux Commercial that seemed nice even though it didn't have the tool kit.

I can't seem to find anyone that has a Lindhaus in stock to try. All of the dealers I've tried offer them as a "side brand" and will order them if someone wants one.

Another dealer is offering the Perfect DM101/Clean Obsessed CO101 for $699.99 plus 12 bags and four filters. It seemed decent.

That's a shame to hear that nobody in your area has any Lindhaus vacuums for you to try out. You can always buy a Lindhaus at amazon.com but it is a risk when you buy something online that you've never tried before.

I really don't think the other choices of brands are bad. I like Riccar, their tandem air uprights are very powerful cleaners and so are their R25 models. Sebos are one of my all time favorite brands. I personally love their X4 models. The G4 is one of the newest models that they recently came out and it doesn't have an automatic height adjuster which is a thing I like better than the X4. But it doesn't have a squeegee underneath so it would scatter dirt on barefloors which is a thing I like better about the X4 since it does have a squeegee. And the Felix/Dart are just fantastic uprights. But sorry to hear that they're not quite a proper fit for you.

Personally, I would take the Perfect DM101 or the Clean Obsessed CO101 over any Aerus Lux uprights. Aerus are just WAY too overpriced for what they are in my opinion but I still think they're good vacuums none of the less. Another upright you could also consider looking into is the Proteam Proforce 1500XP. Similar to both the Aerus and the Perfect/Clean Obsessed uprights. Personaly, I prefer the Proteam over the other two. The power switch is on top of the handle. It uses a powerful Domel suction motor. It's got indicator lights for both the brushroll and the bag. It's cheaper (Retail price of course). And it's got a longer commercial warranty.

I may have found someone an hour away. They list the Lindhaus commercials on their website, but I'm going to call tomorrow to see if they have any in stock.

The dealer closest to me had a Lux Commercial for $499, which I didn't think was a bad price, except that it didn't include the tool kit.

Felix vs G/X series

Just wanted to throw my 2c in. I've done some testing on the Felix as well as the X4 and the Felix has greater airflow than the X4 at the cleaner head I saw 61.12 CFM from the X4 and 74.49 CFM from the Felix. While it may seem lightweight I think the Dart/Felix may be the best performing upright from Sebo. The one thing about the felix that I find annoying is the lack of an onboard wand and it only has space for 2 tools on it.

Actually ended up going with the Riccar R25 Deluxe. Not what I expected to get and it's the one she liked the best. It seems really nice for the price point and the bag is high quality. The dealer used it as a loaner and sold it to me for the same price as the Standard model would be ($399).
