My best guess puts it a bit older.

Green was 1972-77. 1978 was blue. I think yours is a 1972 from the model number, others will know more.

this is a 1974 model. 1973 had a very unique woodgrain pattern they only used in fall/winter of that year. i have a 1978 2997 sears best (and have had three pass thru my hands) and they are two tone blue.
these are fantastic machines, however the "powermate" pn's height adjuster are ALWAYS broken on these and i had to make a home repair from sratch because it was missing entirely.
the pn's and hoses for these are VERY difficult to find by themselves. i went scouring 5 vacuum shops in missouri at the vacuum convention in june, and the only one i got for a "sears best" was from collector alex braun that was useable, the other was for parts from a 1980 sears best from a vac shop in springfield, mo

This machine is definitely a 1972 model, my neighbor had a 2297, which was the same machine, but the power mate did not have a headlight. The second digit in the 4 digit code designated the year, and the last 2 were the series, the higher the number the better the machine. The height adjustment on this power nozzle was ridiculous, the pedal only raised it, and at the highest position it was almost 3" off the ground, to lower it, you stepped on the top of the power mate and it made a loud stripping sound, it was kind of crude, most kept it on the lowest position anyway. The attachment holder was moulded in the hood also on the 2297 and it did not have the maxi filter, it just had the regular round filter. There was other differences that I can't seem to remember.

Yes, as long as it is for a front hose machine any hose and power nozzle up through the 80s ones will work.
You can still get the bags as type E at Sears, or there are a multitude of them online vintage and new. You can use cut to fit filter material and glue it inside the filter frame also.

Im pretty sure you can make a slightly altered Electrolux Upright hose (electrified) fir this by altering the machine end
