Good morning everyone. I am new to this group but have a had a wonderful time reading the post for the past several months. So much so that I have started collecting again. Here are a few pictures of what followed me home this past weekend. I have not quite figured out where to start with this batch. They all seem to need a lot so it is a little overwhelming. Welcome to the group! You'll meet a lot of great people here and learn much! There are fantastic resources her to help you restore those 'diamonds in the rough'. My collection is mostly pre 70's, going back as old as 1909. You've got some challenges ahead of you with that haul. But don't dismay, I've brought some machines back to life that seemed beyond saving. The first thing I'd do is cut those nasty dry rotted cords off. The wiring down the handle on those is probably shot all the way down to the motor, I wouldn't test them until you've totally disassembled it to see how the internal wiring and motors look. The bags can be saved to, especially on that real old one (Universal maybe?) if you handwash it in luke warm water and use Woolite, rinse in cold and air dry. When you get into them feel free to pick my brain!

That really old one is a Universal model 58. The cord that was on it wasnt the original but was so far gone it looked dangerous even with out plugging it in. But being eager to see if it even still ran I hooked up a spare cord to the two terminals on top on the motor and sat it in the front yard where I could watch through the window if it came on. It purred like a kitten. Surprisingly I think the bag is the original because it says Universal Model 58 on it and is in decent shape. The brushroll on the other hand is a different matter. It is more of a roll since it doesnt have a bristle left on it.

Thanks for the welcome. The Classic I got at a thrift store for $5. I also got the rest of the ones in that pic there. The rest came from my moms garage.I already ordered a brush roll for the classic, now I am trying to find the outer bag and it will be usable.
