Hi everyone,
Im a new member and just got my first vacuum. I was driving down the street and found what I thought was a sanitair in the trash infront of a church, i opened the trunk, threw it in and left. When I got back home I found out I had a lime green Hoover Decade 80. I havent tried it yet because the cord is cut off. But Ive got to imagine if this is anything like the other old vacuums Ive found over the years its probably an indestructable, work horse, that cleans great. Other than the decade 80 decal being beat up the vacuum seems pretty nice. Where can I get a nice replacement cord? Is it actually a good vacuum to save? What does the power surge mean?

Thanks For getting back to me, could you send me a link for the cord? Ive been searching and cant seem to find one specifically for this vacuum.

Decade 80 cord

Be sure to get a cord that is made for the flat handle of your decade. Most cords listed for a Hoover convertible will be for the round handle. The protector that goes into the handle is different between the two.

Ive been playing on google for the last day and a half and havent found anything as far as a replacement cord specifically for the decade vacuums. If I strike out at the Vacuum repair shop, is there anything I could try that might work?

I also have a Decade 80 in mint green. Yes, it is a workhorse. so far, the only thing I have had to replace have been the usual, bags and belts. Event the lights are still working. Regular maintenance to clean the roller due to long hair females in my house though. Great machine!

I just got my mint green Decade 80 a couple weeks ago at Goodwill. It must be mint green Decade 80 season or something!

Mine has the original bag but someone used it with no paper bag in it so the entire bottom of the bag is just packed solid with fine dirt. It looks like someone tried hoovering the beach with it. Was serviced by a mom and pop shop in 2011 and looks like it was seldom used after that.
