I found a mint Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition on Facebook marketplace for $175 should I get it or should I get an older G3 or G4 or even a Legend 2

While only you can answer that question, if it were me I'd go for the Diamond because it was the only 4 speed Kirby ever made. The low speed with the power nozzle is excellent for throw rugs and area rugs.

I truly thought this was about a new kirby. I say that because Avalir 2 (sentria 4) is going on 3yrs old now. Its time for a NEW kirby, and not a re-colored/re-named 2006 sentria with a few new cosmetic changes.

They seem to go for around 100-125 here.
I got very excited for a second then I would go for the diamond

I would not pay that much for one. You can get them cheaper than that if you shop around. I just got a Ultimate G Diamond Edition off shopgoodwill for $35 shipped to my house. Its up to you though, if you can afford the price, go for it.
The appeal with the Diamond Edition was it was only made for a few months, maybe half a year at best, and it had a multi-speed motor for cleaning area rugs and other situations where you would not need a lot of suction. Other than that, it is the exact same vacuum as the Ultimate G.
They were not necessarily a sales flop but Kirby got sick and tired of replacing motors on them because people were leaving the vacuums on low speed or failing to even read the manual for the vacuum they got, and burning the motors up by doing their entire house on low speed. Kirby was losing a lot of money on warranty repairs on them so they just decided to stop selling and supporting the vacuum.
That was the last new Kirby until the Sentria came along 4 years later in 2006.

The diamond edition came out in 2003 and ran until june 2006, which was when the sentria was released.

The regular Ultimate G,without the delicate switch, came out in 2002 and ran for a year and then the Ultimate G Diamond edition,with the delicate switch, came out in 2003 and ran till 2006. So technically the Ultimate G, rather it be the one without the switch or the diamond edition, with the switch, ran from 2002-2006.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the above. I picked up a Diamond G at Goodwill about a month ago for $50 with an almost full set of tools. It was missing the crevice tool and floor tool but had a full shampooer kit. It needed a massive cleanup and a few minor parts replaced but I'm still in it for less than $70.
The Legend 2 and Heritage 2 Legend are the same machine, except for the color scheme. I have one of each. The Heritage 2 Legend I found for $15 without a cord but in otherwise pristine condition. A new cord brought my total to a shade over $30.
I've never owned a G3 or G4 but they're both fine machines; in fact, there really isn't a 'bad' Kirby model out there, as far as I'm concerned. They're all extremely well made. Which one to get will largely depend on what features you want. G3 and newer models have the Tech Drive propulsion system that make pushing and pulling it almost effortless while Heritage and Tradition series machines can be had with a dump bag or disposable paper bag configuration. Models prior to the Tradition were dump bag only.
Be patient and persistent and you'll find a good machine at a great price. Heck, you might luck up and make a killer trash find, free for the taking.
