New Hoover Guardsman

This is the Hoover Guardsman I bought online this past weekend. It just arrived today! Judging by the picture on the ebay store I bought it from, I was kind of thinking I was getting maybe one of the last North Canton machines. One can hope. But it is a Tacony machine. Mayb ethey should update their picture. I snapped some pix. Enjoy

The first one is of the familiar square hood. The base is made of lexan. I can't remember the story on lexan. Electrolux started to use it in their machines in the 80's

Cord

The cord threads up the handle just like the model 31. The step switch is on the handle bail and the bumper is clear! An interesting thing is that the carpet height adjustment lever is not metal with a rubber tab like the handle release, its a one piece lever that I hope does not break. There are also no height numbers or "low" "med" High" etc. words to let you know what height you are in.

Brush roll

I call it a brush roll and not an agitator because there are no beater bars. The is also no second set if brush strips! I have a brand new convertible agitator complete with beater bars sent to me by Glenn Dienst. I've been saving it for something like this!

To my friend the cord whor...uh.....big fan of cords! Check out the 50ft cord! One big cord hook at the top which I will admit is how I store my cords when i'm in a hurry LOL!

Bag inflated

I thought it would puff out more but I will take better pix of the bag later. There is a type A bag inside.

Was it Tacony (Riccar/Simiplicity) that bought Hoover, or was it TTI (Dirt Devil/Royal)?

How many guesses do we get at the cord whor....? Lexan is a trademark of General Electric for polycarbonate plastic. Very tough material. In thick enough applications, it becomes bullet-proof "glass". Nice looking machine. Thank you for the pictures.

Yes, nice to know the Guardsman still lives on, even if it incorporates a little more plastic. It wouldn't have taken much effort at all for Hoover to produce a retro Convertible for the centennial celebration. I'm still toying with the idea of buying the "Saavy" that bears the convertible name. Eureka did it a few years ago with their "retrovac" model 1950A. Beautiful machine with a chrome hood, turquoise trim and a black and white houndstooth bag.
