i got a vacuum which has been on my vacuum wish ist for a long time! A hoover dial-a-matic! Its blue and cream olored with flower decals. Could someone help me identify age? Thanks. Ill post pics later.

I think that's a model 1136? From the early 70s, I believe.

I always liked that mode. I have a pretty nice one; I'll have to dig it our and play with it one of these days.

Thnks fred. I thought maybe it was pre-1969, becuse theres no power drive. But thanks for the info! Oh, and sorry i got mad at you a few weeks ago. You were right, i was being immature.

forgot to add this to my last post

This is actually my first older hoover. I dont have anything older than this, exept my kirby D-50.

Even after 1969, they still made non-power-drive DAMs. They were just considered middle of the line/top of the line just as there were middle of the line/top of the line Convertibles.

thanks.

Thanksfor your help. Im still lovin it! The bag was full when i got it, so i took another vacuum, stuck the hose in the bag, and vacuumed it out. The people who had i before me must have had pets, cause there was a lot of hair in the bag. I have some panasonic bags that might fit it, but do you know what other types of bags would fit?

Call me dumb, but i dont exactly know what that means, but im sure its good! Thanks. It has a few dings, and theres no little hoover sticker on the nozzle. Other than that, its perfect!

DAMs take Hoover D bags, which are not too hard to find. Any good vacuum store will have them. It's kind of funny, they're designed to need frequent replacement.

question ? ? ?

never saw a DAM with the T height lever, how long was it in use, why did hoover do away with it ? ? ?

saw the vid ;-)

The T-height lever was in use on all non power drive Dial-A-Matics from about 1970 (with the model 1130) until about 1978. When the Concept 1 debuted in 1978, Hoover switched to a sliding height adjuster. My guess being with the new plastic base, the T height adjuster would have put too much strain on the housing. Does anyone know if the U5015 or the U5017 was the last non power drive DAM model?

but

i have seen green and orange DAMs that did not have the T, they were not power drives ? ? ? ?
