Here is a fun shot of the underside of the old "B" Rexair. Notice it is still pretty clean after all these years.

The new machune is now certified:
(1) Certified ashma & allergy friendly by aafa.org
(2) AHAM certified air cleaner
(3) The Rug and Carpet Institute Seal of Approval

Fine dust clean-ups

Can't people use a shop vac for picking up any powder or cat litter? A TriStar is fine (not for wet pickup!) since it maintains suction even with a full bag.

I think shop vac makes bags specifically for picking up drywall dust and the bags get great reviews......But it looks like it's a paper type bag, not the synthetic cloth......I wonder how a paper bag could EVER be considered better than the synthetic cloth bag?.......As far as the Rainbow.....They do make the Aquawet. Even still, I don't know if I would chance picking up drywall dust even with that...It might work though. I also remember reading where someone actually put a little cooking oil with the water in the water basin for that....I can't remember where I read that or why I remember it....I mean, cooking oil?

Power Nozzle Question

Hi Rob,


 


Earlier in the thread you mentioned the power nozzle lays flat to go easily under things. Does that include a bed? I actually bought the older style power nozzle to use when cleaning under the beds. The newer power nozzles tip up before you get all the way under to the other side. The way I have to arrange my bedroom does not allow me to go to the other side and vacuum that half. I have the same problem with electrolux power nozzles after the PN #5. They all tip before reaching the other side. I hate to have two power nozzles to do one job.

Not sure I can answer this question to your satisfaction. The power nozzle handle is pulled back from the upright position and then the neck turns so the wands go to the floor. The power nozzle is flat to the carpet but the hose handle and top of the wand would be about 3 inchs from being completely flat.
I am not a good judge because I many times just used the Jet rug tool or the fuller brush under the beds. The ony thing I would need to pick up is some surface dust,no embedded dirt.
I will be the first to say in in 2 weeks use this is the FIRST power nozzle I have ever used that NOT ONCE has tipped over. I appreciate that as so many will fall over against the wall or hit the furniture.
I can leave this in the upright position even with the hose attached. One thing is that the hose handle is small on the Raonbow. I have some canisters where the hose handle looks like a gas pump and is almost as heavy.
NO WAY could you do this with my old SE. It was to me too wide and was always falling over. Same problem with my Hoover Anniversary cansiter. It falls over all the time and the up positoin will not even stay if you pick it up. Both the hose handle and the power nozzle are very combersome to use. I don't think ether of my Electrolux power nozzles will stand up on their own. It seems like the Epic 8000 will SORT OF stand up if it is positionsed just right

I know what you mean. At least my E2 PN doesn't tip up at all when you get to the other end under the bed..It stays flat against the floor.......But Most of the time I too use the floor brush to get under the bed......No one walks under the bed so it's just dust, no really deep dirt.....The Kenmore PN does I have does tip up.....

Rob........The E series Rainbows do lock in the upright position and don't tip over at all.

I think LED lights can be installed on the e2 2 speed. There are holes already there that just need to be drilled out and there is even a connection plug from what I have been told...That would be cool to have

New Rainbow

I just bought the brand new Rainbow today. I love the new design. The power nozzle is so much better than the previous model. I just emailed my distributor because he didn't show me the rainjet and I would love it for the hard surface floors I have. Does Ken in Austin have an email if my distributor won't sell me one?

Not sure who this is going to as no name on the profile but Ken's name and number are given earlier on this thread. I am sure he can help you out at a fair price.
The Rainjet is one of the best parts of the new machine. It works great on my laminate floors and the fact you can change from one type of cleaning to the next by just changing the bottom wand. It uses very little liquid and leaves the floor dry in seconds with air flow of the new Rainbow.

I have had the machine for over 2 weeks and have noticed several things that are interesting.
The redigned cord storage is much better. You can unwind the cord from across the room. Many of my vacuums require you to bend over to unwind the cord or mess with trying to get the cord winder to rewind. Some of my newer machines have such inferior cord storage that the cord will keep falling off the hooks.
I also like the fact that you can just loop the cord and drop in on the holder if you use the cleaner every day as I do with a shedding dog.

Here is another thing that is different from many of my other power nozzle cleaners. The Rainbow will hold the hose and the power nozzle does not tip over. In general use I have not had the power nozzle fall over one time. Some of my newer power nozzle canisters will not stand alone even if the machine is not working and the hose not attached.

That's the way my 2 speed is. The PN won't fall over when in upright position. The cord storage is just "OK"......This new design cord storage looks much better. I'm still as jealous as a thousand red hot Texas suns.

New Generation Rainbow has arrived

The new design of the fuller brush has cut outs in just the right places in both the front and back to snatch grit and hair even before the brush reachs the dirt. It also seems to be a good design as far as not having to constantly hand clean the brush . I like the separate bumber that goes around the brush like the old Lux,Compact and Air-Way floor tools.
Thank goodness Rainbow has not gone to cheap generic tools as so many vacums have today.

Now NOT evErything is perfect in any machine and the Rainbow is not a light weight. Of course I would not like it if it were made out of cheap plastic either. I can tell you my dolly has already made one trip down the staIrs with no damage. The power nozzle is very light and pushes easy and the dolly is such an improvement over my old SE that I can EASILY overlook the weight. This is NOT an ORECK and would not be a good choice for an older person,but now I am spoiled and don't want to go back to any vac that leaks or smells.
I have bought a 2nd basin to use upstairs and I will get a second hose just to use upstairs at some future date.
Aa I said before-now we want to see the new KIRBY!

You are so right Rob, no machine is perfect and that may be a good thing.  It gives us all something to look forward to.  From all that you have said about the new Rainbow I would say that it comes pretty darn close!!  I am hoping that Ken Bashford and you will come to the convention this year.  I am sure that he is as excited about the machine as you are.

I tried the Aquamate out for the second time today. Because the Rainbow basin and the Aquamte tanks are designed to use together you don't have to worry about overfilling the basin. With the lighted basin you can see at a glance when it is time to empty. The new concentrate uses so little suds to clean(like the HE we use for front load washers).
I liked the fact that I can have the brush on or off and do any of the 3 functions of wash,rinse or dry. If you have the brush in the off position it still revolves manually so I used the Aquamate to clean some small rugs that could not tolerate a revolving brushes.

You use the step on control to determine which mode (wash,rinse,dry) and use the hand trigger on the hose handle to lock it on/off or on when gripped.
It is nice that the customer uses the same controls on the hose handle and they perform the same functions with the power nozzle,Aquamate,Rainbowmate and Rainbowjet.

The instruction book does not say but because the power is supplied by the hose handle and wands, The Auqamate will connect to one,both or just the hose handle if you had a small job like stairs to do.

I had to go fill both the cleaner shampoo tank and the rinse tank and it exactly fills the Rainbow basin to the fill line on the side of the basin.
You do not have to worry when it will be full. When you use all your cleaner and all your rinse water ,you will need to empty the Rainbow basin. Now the fooler is that the new concentrate takes very little so it will do a pretty good sized room.
I like the fact that the cleaner is not sticky like the shampoo used in my steam cleaner or my and Kirby rug renovator,plus you are using all the power of the Rainbow to remove the moisture.
If I had been using my steam cleaner,it would have gone through 2 bigger tanks at least for the same area.
Now this would no be very handy to use if your were cleaning a hotel lobby but in normal households the capacity it great. Because the Aquamate is light weight compared to my steam cleaner I would think most women would love it.
If you have huge areas to clean and they are filthy dirty (like a commerical institution) I think you would want a Rug Doctor but just for my household use this is very easy to use and of course the power and airflow of the Rainbow removes so much more water from the carpet than my steam cleaner ever thought of doing. I hope that answers your question Mark.
This new basin is so much easier to use than my old Rainbow because they changed the pouring spout and it is marked on the side of the basin where the fill line and with the lighted basin you can easily see when it's full.

Yes.....From what I can tell, I don't think the basin has changed at all on any of the E series to this E4 (black) is it called?.....I wonder why they didn't just call it E3?.........And what's with Rainbow and the letters "D" and "E"?

NEW WATER TRAP VACUUM

I just bought one of those Ritello machines from an ex rainbow dealer. It has alot of nice features like 4 speeds on the motor and a cord rewinder built in. I like also that is has a larger basin like a 4 qt that comes with it and a turbo brush that is pretty much a kirby zippbrush clone.

Dirty Rainbow fans...?

The Rainbow fans remain clean unless:
1) The water has been loaded with dirt until it is no longer liquid
2) The separator is not cleaned regularly and dirt builds up
3) Too much non-wettable dirt is picked up, whether or not a wetting agent is added

I have a D4, 25 yrs old, that is remarkably clean despite much use in cleaning other people's homes. People who have dirt Rainbows don't understand, or don't care how to use and care for them properly.

Robert, I guess Josh thinks all dirt and dust never get`s through all Bagged and Bagless vacuums and their fans are always spotless and dust free ? My E2 Gold 2 Speed I have owned since 2003 is spotless inside and not a spec of dust anywhere through out my motor and Hepa Filter .Every machine with proper care will remain clean and run problem free for years .

That is true now that the filtrete bags are available...

prior to that the cleanest were the Airway, Filter Queen, and properly maintained Rainbow. The previous two had outstanding filtration even before HEPA was thought about. Even Electrolux would get some dust in the bag chamber. Everything else accumulated dust inside, even with using the OEM bags exclusively.

I have cleaned out a few rather nasty Filter Queens where dirt got thru the cone and flat filters-then into the motor and exhaust filter.Used a Fiter Queen service kit on those.`Owners of FQ vacuums often forget the flat filter disc under the cone guard.If this isn't replaced regularly-the motor and exhaust filters get very nasty-again this is a problem with dog owners.There is a flat filter with each pack of cones-take the hint and replace the flat filter after using a pack of cones.the motor and exhaust filters will thank you.and one of my D2 Rainbows was very NASTY inside-had to take down the motor to clean it out.Very fine brown and white dust in it.Any vacuum can get nasty inside if the prior owner doesn't take care of replacing filters.Remember many of the vacuums in our collections come from owners that are not "Vacuumphiles"as we are so they won't take as good of care of them.
