Liked the film clip on the new Rainbow.for the other bagged cleaners such as Meiles,Sebos,'Luxes, the list goes on-I enjoy these, too.Still use the new Sebo with the Rainbow.I don't think CU fully understands how Rainbows work and how to use them.I think if they try the new model they may be surprized-and I don't like their idea of using the powernozzle on bare floors-DUH!!It WASN'T designed for that-use the BARE FLOOR tool that comes with the Rainbow or another other canister vacuum.Any sort of powernozzle can SCRATCH bare floors if you are not careful. The wrench-brush used to clean the Rainbow separator is under the motor-powerdome unit.Look carefully where it fits onto the water bin.Its like on a James Bond movie-the separator wrench is in a spring loaded compartment underneath-its not real easy to see.You touch the end of the tool slightly and it pops out of the compartment.when you are done with the tool-just put it back into the compartment-you will hear it click into place.

Mark,
The window squeegee arrived yesterday. It looks like it will be perfect. Just the right size. It snapes on the fabric tool brush.

Mark, thanks so much for posting that video.  I have to agree with Fred, the guy doing it is great!!  I am sure he could sell a lot of Rainbows!!!

New Generation Rainbow arrived

Terry,
I just had to stop and try it! It works great and so fast.
Here is how I used it:

(1) start with EMPTY basin
(2) wet the window down with sponge
(3) use the squeegee attachment from top down on windowm
(4) I used one of the wands for extra reach
NOW because you have the ONE electric hose and ONE set of wands you can go from window cleaning right on to regular rug cleaning. No change over needed.
(5) I let the Rainbow pick up enough HOT water finish filling the basin and at the same time cleans the wand and hose of any dirt. Let it run for a few seconds and it dries the wand and hose itself and you are ready to use the regular suction tools.
Now if the windows were really dirty I guess you could use some of the Rainbow Floor cleaner (used with the Rainbowjet) as it will not harm the wands, hose basin and it does not foam and you could still go right into regular cleaning.

new generation Rainbow arrived

Terry,
I just thought of something that works better on this Rainbow than my old SE. Because this has a 2 speed switch. High speed for cleaning and Low for air cleaning when you need to stop in the middle of using the Rainbow, you can now just switch it to low air cleaning mode and not have to remove the Rainbow top off the basin. I was always removing the top every time I turned off my old SE. This is a much better set up.

Any other e2 owners out there with the Hurricane brushless motor?

Have you noticed the motor does not get hot and exhaust stays cool no matter how long the motor is running?
I have several of my newer hepa filtration vacuums that seem to run on the hot side after being in normal use. I thought maybe all the layers of filters were slowing the air flow through the motors.
I do remember getting call backs when I was selling the Electrolux 1205's because customers thought the motor was getting too hot on the top of the machines. That was long before any hepa filtration.

Rob, thanks so much for the information.  Now with the ability to do windows it truly is a complete home cleaning system.  I guess I need to start buying lottery tickets.   I really would love to have one.

You have sure started a great thread here Rob, I don't remember any thread before having as many hits as this has had.

Used Rainbows sold as new

I've had 2 Rainbow demos. In each case we did not buy. Each Rainbow was was taken out of the box to appear to be brand new. And each time the demoed Rainbow was boxed up to appear to be new again.

During the last demo, I used a quarter to open the bottom of the power nozzle. Inside the nozzle were some red and brown carpet fibers that came from someone else's house. I suspect that many door to door vacuums are demoed until they are sold as if new. Kind of like new cars are test driven by car buyers.

Terry,
Just wait until they come out with the new Kirby! We will have just as much fun.
Maybe Jack will be giving an update on some new Dyson's before long.

Hey Rob

Glad you got the squeegee. That was fast! I use a big squeegee to do my front room windows.......I start at the top and go down, but then I have to have a wet cloth to dry the bottom of the window and the squeegee.....I've never used a squeegee on a vacuum but I'm imagine that water is completely gone and there is no wiping of the squeegee and all......

From what I can see, that looks like an Awesome view out your window and the porch looks great too.

Jeff,
Funny but true story-I bought a new "sealed box" crock pot as a wedding gift. After I had wrapped the gift I kept getting this faint odor. I upwraped the box and opened it to find not only had the crock been out of the box,the person had reurned it with the burned baked bean remains on the inside!

Another story was when I was in High School I bought my parents a new Sunbeam Coffeemaster. It looked like it was in a new box and it looked new. When mom went to use it she noticed the inside of the pot looked a little dark. It would only make ONE pot and then it would not cycle again unless it sat for a day. We returned it to a Sunmbean Service Station and found out NOT only had the pot been used but it had the date it had been serviced before from the Sunbeam Company. This was purchased at a high end department store. The store replaced the pot but I think they thought WE were the ones pulling the scam.
In the case of my Rainbow I think it was new because I was waiting for them to arrive and he emailed me that night and mailed it out the next morning.
Ken was wondferful to deal with in every respect.

Thanks Mark

What makes it work nice is the longer standard electrified hose and the fact that you can use the wands for extra reach and you can go right into regular cleaning without any setup or change over to another hose, set of wands. Just suck up some more water to fill the basin and let the machine dry the hose and wand for a few seconds. The lighted water basin lets you see when you have enough water added. It is just like changing from using the dusting brush to the floor tool.
I bet your Rainbow optional 14 ft hose would be a big asset if you had tall windows to clean.

Yes..The 14 foot hose is great.......What I usually do is run the PN all over the house...Unsnap, put it away.....Grab the fourteen foot hose and just go around getting everything and the unit itself doesn't get moves around as often. And you don't have to worry about unplugging/replugging in a different outlet because the hose is so long that the machine doesn't need to be moved far enough

Speaking of getting a used Rainbow when you "think" it's new..........

I got lucky I guess. I remember unpacking mine and there is NO way that it was used. I'm pretty sure I would have spotted something. I kept all the boxes and packing material it came in and it's all in my attic. I would have NO clue how to repack them if I ever needed to.

I had to correct some errors.....My grammar :(

Aaron........That is still HIGH for a used Rainbow when you can get a refurbed 2 speed off Ebay sometimes for as little as 700 dollars. I've seen one speeds for 600 dollars. How well they are refurbished, I do not know?? I guess some of these vacuum guys on there are pretty reputable because they seem to do a LOT of selling of high end used rebuilt vacuums........I wouldn't buy a USED Rainbow if it was someone just selling "theirs"

But it will be a LONG time before these new Rainbows start showing up on Ebay as refurbished, and EVEN THEN, they will be expensive.

All door to door do the same, however

The last rainbow I bought, I walked in and purchased it with the stipulation that I did not need a demo and it needed to be brand new. They delivered it to my home and I checked it all over to be sure and then I signed the paperwork stating that they had shown me the various ways to use and clean the machine. The same goes for Kirby. Fortunately, I have no complaints with the Kirby dealer or the Rainbow dealer, although I don't think my Rainbow dealer is still in business. When I get a new Rainbow I will likely buy from the gentleman that Rob mentioned in his post.

I tried to capture the strong vibration of the heavy carpet. You can feel the strong air flow when you put your hand in front of the nozzle and you can feel it in your tennis shoe when you are standing next to the running nozzle.

You think that is too high still? The one I was looking at online was like $1,100.00, but it had the serial number scraped off, and had no warranty. So I thought with the new warranty he gave with this one, and he did send the rainbow mate and we got two rainmates out of it, I thought it was a fair price. Now the $1,000 was tax included as well, and I got 5% off of that with the discover card. I guess I will not complain too much if the vacuum continues to operate as well was it has been :)

Aaron,
I think you got a good deal considering you could have paid $500.00 for a big box store vac that would not do near as many things and you would have to buy filters and or bags all the time you own the machine.
You also got the Rainbowmate and other extras. You will be using that machine years from now and you will always start with a clean machine and with the Rainbow the dirt leaves the house and not stored in a closet.

Aaron........You're right. I was completely forgetting about the warranty in my mind........Yes......That price is fine.

I was just saying I look on Ebay occasionally and I have seen two speeds that have been completely refurbished for like 800 dollars.....But it's bare bones usually. Just the unit, the PN and the wet/dry hose and typical attachments that come with it..and it's with a warranty from the sellers store....Not Rainbow.......So yeah, with the warranty that's good....

Here's a good example of one.....
