Thanks for the tip about the hose. I live just north of Indianapolis so we are about 3 hours away. We do have a very good Rainbow distributor in Indianapolis.
They do show a 14 foot electric hose as an option in the instruction book.
Ken is mailing my new Rainbowmate that just came in last week. It was included with mt purchase package and I went ahead and ordered a spare basin.

I got my electric hose out and as far as I can tell it looks the same. The only difference I could see was the color of the 2 side release buttons as everything that is "action related" is now color matched on the machine.
I could be wrong but I think a customner could buy the power nozzle but you would need to buy a new hose,electric wands and power nozzle.
I think al the otehr tools would fit except the floor brush if yours has the curved bottom wand like my SE used.
I think to be sure you might want to give Ken a call. He knows his Rainbows and is very customer friendly.

A most wonderful machine, but...

Hey this Rainbow is the most beautiful one I have ever encountered.
Neat features, very innovative.

But one single thing remains that might make me have second thoughts about buying one myself:
Apparently this one is an eSeries model, so does it have this new brushless motor?
I remember having seen a youtube video with one of them, the sound was horrendously nerve-wrecking when ramping up. Even when on full speed, this strange grunting hum wouldn't go away completely.
A friend of mine has a Black&Decker wannabe-cyclonic plastic bomber, same thing: A blood-curdling scratchy humm, hair raising as hell! (It is kind of bearable when on full speed, yet not nice at all).

Rainbows with brush-type motors sound so much nicer and smoother.

This new electronic motor sound is a real nerve test for me: A mixture of a cranky subway dispatching and eating concrete gravel with aluminium foil bits, topped with toilet bowl cleaner dressing (with your third teeth, that is). It freaks me! Want to run, run and run away or nuke that terrible B+D vac.
Have you ever touched the bottom of a running industrial sized ultrasonic bath at an optician's?
Now imagine THIS inside your skull.

Please tell me that the new SuperRainbow sounds NICE! Please!

I just heard back from Rexair about whether or not the hose would fit the e series prior to this latest model:

You can outfit your e series with the latest Power Nozzle.

And you can do this through purchasing a new hose and the Power Nozzle to convert your system to the updates that the new PZ has to offer.


It won't "match"..........but I may do this in the future, no sure. I still hate that I will be missing the coolest part....The LED light

I can't stand a loud screeming vacuum either. I had heard the early E models and that is why I kept my SE series so long. The new E2 series (with blue trim)and this machine are very quiet. I does make a unique start up sound but that is only maybe a second.
To me it sounds much like an old Electrolux or Air-Way. Almost a pleasing tone.
This model is 11% quieter than the last according to the dealer and Rainbow info and the power nozzle is very quiet compared to most modern cleaners
No where near the loudness of my Hoover Anniversary Windtunel,Dyson DC7 upright or the early Oreck uprights.

The new Rainbmate came today. It looks about the same BUT it has direct connect and you can use one or both electric wands if you need extra reach and it has a positive botton lock. All features that were lacking on my previous SE Rainbowmate.

this looks all promising and sleek and "wanting to touch and use it".
Ken seems to be a person to take promises for a "must-be-done" (versprochen ist versprochen as we say in German = a promise IS a promise) - no matter if made in the USA or here or in France or anywhere. THIS is the kind of service we all want worldwide, don't we? Maybe some day there will be a label "made on Earth - human made". Wouldn't that make us proud? (provided the quick-rich-scheme money makers are gone, those guys that let us customers stay standing in the rain once there are problems inflicted by crap products not made with love)

Thanks for the friendly replies on the motor sound, but I will still reconsider and wait for first postings on video channels.

Btw: THIS model of a Rainbow doesn't seem to be available here on German Rainbow pages / only on the international ones (which means 120 volts for me ;-//. They still feature D and E models. What am I missing? And why can't I find my local dealer? There is some post code entry field but no real search engine. I cannot imagine that there would not be a dealer round my town, almost a million people here, neighbor cities and rural spots included, harbor, industry, full fledged public transport combining 5 cities and dozens of communities, high speed train connection, dual freeway nodes and a small airport. Why can't I look up Rainbow in the phone book? What makes them so secret-keeping?

Do you plan on purchasing the 14 foot electric hose? I'd be curious to know if a hose this long reduces the suction enough to effect the cleaning ability, or if this machine is still strong enough with the longer hose. I love the idea of being able to leave a machine stationery and having enough hose length to clean everything within reach.

Luxlife.......I agree. I've wondered the same thing........I have the 14 foot non-electric hose on my 2 speed that I use ALL the time to get high places and the suction is great at the end even at 14 feet....Maybe a little bit of loss but not very much....So much easier to pop the hose on and just go around and dust everything high and low without having to move the actual unit.....I think it would be worth it.

I don't think I will be ordering the 14 ft hose. I never have been one to like the long hoses. That is just a personal preference. I will order a second regular electric hose later along with a second basin to leave upstirs. That way all I will have to move will be the motor unit and power nozzle to transport.
The new standard hose is longer and seems to be just about the correct length.
It did notice when a had a Miele demonstation that the hose seemed very short and the power cord seemed short. Maybe it was just the because it was in the vac store and not in a home situatrion or it might have been just the machine they were showing me at the store.

I don't have any vaulted ceilings but I can sure see where that would come in handy.
I can tell you that new design of the dolly is such an improvement over the one for my SE. Also having just the ONE set of wands and ONE hose sure simplifies the use. I never thought I would see a Rainbow with such strong suction and air flow that I have to use the suction relief so much of the time.
I also love the size of the power nozzle and it is so easy to steer around the chairs,table legs and the active side brushes snatch all the hair and litter. No more using the crevice tool along the edges.

A Rainbow is a Rainbow is a Rainbow. If you already have a Rainbow you are used to not having leaking dust,no bags to buy,no bins to empty an no expensive filters to replace all the time. The best part for me is there is no dust to fly or smell every time you turn it on. Every timne you start with a perfectly clean machine that does not lose the suction and air flow.
Every other make of vacuum I have owned sooner or later starts smelling and you have ot mess with the dry dust. The new machine is just much more user friendly and of course much more powerful with the new power nozzle. It seems like Rexair was listening to the customer and retained the good parts and refined the rest. You still have the same "wet dust can't fly" since 1936.

You still have to fill and empty the Rainbow water bin in between uses.don't mind it.I do like this newer Rainbow over my olderE2-its so much quieter and the better PN,and roller base.The motor is the same though-the machine is just quieter-they must have put sound insulation around the motor.I think its easier to fill and empty the Rainbow bin than the bin on a dry bagless vac-their bins are ALWAYS dusty!

I wonder why they have not added an automatic cord rewind?  Seems it would be easy enough to put one on in replacement of the current cord holder.

What is was told was the cordwinder had several downsides:
(1) more weight
(2) have to use a shorter power cord
(3) tend to be an abused customer feature (of course we vac collectors would not have any problems)
(4) changes the balance of the machine when lifting (good example would be when they added a cord winder to the lightweight Electrolux L machine or the Filter Queen with an added cord winder)
(5) more expensive repair to replace the power cord
who knows we might see one down the road.

What is the length of the cord now?  If balance was a problem they could add the rewinder to the top of the machine.

The cord is now 24 ft long. I don't think I would want any more weight added to the motor unit but to each their own. I use the machine every day with a shedding cocker spaniel so I like the way they changed the cord hanger and I am able to just loop the cord and drop it on the hanger. I seldom even wind it around the holder. You can see on the earlier picture they changed the cord storage set up.
I have had manay vacs with too short a power cord and even a couple where the cord was always in the way because it was too long.
I plug this one in the breakfast room and I can clean the living room,dining room,family room,kitchen,front and back hall and laundry room without have to change the plug. I guess it would depend on your own application and how often you use the machine.

I am shocked to see that the Rainbow does not have a rectractable cord AT ALL! (Have never seen one live, that is why I feel so jaw-dropping).
Almost ANY canister has one, the last ones not having one were gone in the early seventies here....

Quote and reply:

(1) more weight = bullocks, you have the weight of the cord already now. Just a plastic wheel and spring are added.

(2) have to use a shorter power cord = not when the wheel is large enough (add some 100 g more plastic, but that is it)

(3) tend to be an abused customer feature (of course we vac collectors would not have any problems) = write a note in the manual: no guarantee when used the wrong way, done. (misuse issue off the table).

(4) changes the balance of the machine when lifting = typical example of not thinking engineering things to their very end (or am I just too German not to accept this?): There would be no unbalance if the winder wheel is concentrically on top of the motor (which would add to a larger diameter as well (it does NOT have to be in back of the machine). Besides a larger wheel can take up longer cords which is wanted (see above).

(5) more expensive repair to replace the power cord = lamest excuse EVER: most rectractor units come in one piece and are just clicked into vac housings. Some others have mechanisms to re-tighten the spring. Others again have a block connector in order to just change the cable itself leaving the winder unit intact.

Plain "cattle droppings" if you ask me. Now THIS is really a joke.
How "retro" can we really go, dear Rainbow Corp.?

Oh Well I will be buying one

A a former Vacuum shop owner the # 1 most repaired item was a cord rewinder tied with broken belts . I was a Miele warranty station and a lot of Miele cord winders broke so just as a personal choice I don`t like a cord winder . I own a Robo clean that has a cord winder and the cord is very short and if I want to use it I have to pull out an extension cord . I am glad to hear that Rainbow changed the way you wrap the cord and it looks like it will make a great difference. I also like that you can just roll it up and set it on the hook until next use. Thank you Rob for refering Ken he is such a nice guy . I will be getting the rainbow in July just in time for my Birthday . I can`t wait to get my new Rainbow. With that said that is why there is a Vacuum for every house !

As nice of a feature a cord winder is to have, I have found that so many of them are too short. The only canister that I own that actually has a long cord making it a breeze to use is my Electrolux Renaissance. Very few other canister vacuums on the market have a 28ft cord, all ever other Lux tanks, including all the new models have a much shorter cord. Even the 2 Miele's that I used to have had short cords. I guess maybe its because they are European machines and homes in Europe are not as large as American homes, but at $1200+ for a TOL Miele canister, a longer power cord would be a wonderful advantage. As for the new Aerus models, its probably just a cost cutting measure to use a shorter cord.

This new Rainbow really looks like a wonderful machine, and this thread has made me want to purchase one. I cant remember the last time someone started a thread about a new machine and within less than two weeks it had over 116+ comments. Its so nice to see a new American made machine that has improved on its weak points, yet still maintained its initial quailty and performance.

Rainbow vacuums are always going to take a little extra work to put away.....A cord winder would be nice, but it takes like 15 seconds to wrap the cord up. Not a big deal to me at all.
