Just found this, which is rather interesting, but a little inaccurate. Still, it does provide some specifics on apparent "average UK vacuums" with energy ratings. However, it would appear that some of the models such as Miele's cylinder ranges have been rated with 1200 watts as opposed to the proper motor watts that the UK market models have.

There are 9 pages in all and not all vacs are listed but a lot are.

Since the Dyson?

I can't wait now until the new law comes into force. I see there are new models of Vax cleaners on Argos.

EU energy ratings are usually better indicators

The EU ratings are a load of nonsense. The criteria doesn't accurate reflect in-home use and the testing is left in the hands of the manufacturer, so there are far too many inconsistencies.

As an example, the ratings system awarded a Vax upright with no brushroll off function a higher rating for hard floors than a straight suction Henry. As we all know, straight suction is the best way to clean a hard floor, but the way the testing criteria works, the Vax scored higher - not accurately reflecting how the cleaner is used in the home.

Whilst the wattage cap is fantastic and welcome, the ratings system is too flawed and inconsistent.
