New cord for my Hoover 28

Well, I was inspired to go through the effort of changing the white cord on my Hoover 28, by a recent thread here where a member had done a similar thing. I was able to track down a more recent but brown cord that fit fine. It is a little lighter brown than the origial would have been but I think it looks much better.

BTW I thought I would clean up the white cord which I saved for perhaps a future restoration. Boy, I must have scrubbed that thing for a half hour with soft scrub with bleach to get it to look okay. Not so hot on white cords...

Nice!! That is a major upgrade for sure. It looks great and appears to be Genuine (Gen-yine!) Hoover! Nice machine, too; one of my favorites as well.

Try a wetted Mr Clean Magic Eraser on that (and any) cord - you'll be amazed at how white it gets. Plan on sacrificing one sponge to the cord but after that you'll use Magic Eraser on all rubber parts for schmutz-removal.

I've found that if I take the cord completely off of the cleaner,  and coil it up -- then let it soak for about a half hour in a bucket of HOT water, with about a quarter cup of bleach, that really loosens the grime.  Then I wipe it down really well, attack the plug with an old toothbrush, and rinse everything off really well -- it works quite nicely.  Just have to be careful when playing with the bleach.  And of course I let it dry out for a good day or two before reinstalling in the machine.
