I need a new Shopvac as mine died last month. Does anyone recommend a certain brand/model? I want one that has the option to use a bag so I'm not having to constantly clean that awful round filter inside. I will only be using this new Shopvac to clean out our cars, not for any sort of construction or drywall dust. Also preferable under a hundred dollars as my budged wont allow me to spend that much money on one. Thanks guys!

Any Sears/Craftsman shop vacuum currently at Sears can accept bags; just like the Shop Vac brand

I also recommend replacing the original cartridge (or flat paper/foam) with a CleanStream GORE HEPA cartridge filter; & also use the yellow fine dust bags

I still have my Craftsman shop vacuum bought new back in 1988 & runs like a top[this post was last edited: 11/24/2013-21:22]

I would strongly recommend a Sears/Craftsman model as well. Mine is about 6 years old, has been through absolute hell, and still sounds as new as it did the day it came out of the box.

I can't recommend a Rigid. We have a 16 gallon that is probably only about 10 years old, and it has been extremely loud from day 1. It hasn't been used excessively or abused, and I think has only been used to pick up water once or twice, and now has an electrical burning smell when it is running. The hose has split, and the attachments are a pretty poor excuse if you ask me.

I think even the newer models of Shop Vac brand are good. We just got at work the 14 gallon model. Says it can pump water also. I am quite impressed with it. It can use bags and it came with one as well as a nice filter. The bags are easy to change also as the entire top of the tank is open when you take the motor off, and it has a removable holder for the bag. It also came with the larger hose and a few attachments.

It was a little over $100, but for your purposes there are loads of other models that are cheaper and may also use a more suitable 1-1/4" hose so can use standard attachments for car cleaning.

Also it is quieter than the older ones like I have. I think they have improved the sound insulation and exhaust system over older models.
