Need something to keep Kirby from picking up runner.

I got two area rugs in my house and they have backing like real carpet and just got the matching runner.
Now since the runner has a rubber backing like a bathroom rug my UltG Diamond is picking up the whole thing when on the back stroke.

Does anyone know of anything I can put on it to prevent that?

Even on the low-speed, your diamond edition still pulls the runners? I thought that’s what the low-speed was for.

Yep, not as bad but on the back stroke it rolls up a bit. I can still clean it but its harder than it should be.

I would use the floor attachment that goes on the end of the hose.

All Kirbys will eat throw rugs and any rug weighing less than 100 lbs. Hold the end of the rug down with your feet as you vacuum, that's what I've done all my life. I have the normal Ultimate G and it nearly sucked my entire bath mat into the bag one time! It just grabbed the middle of the rug and sucked it into the nozzle like nothing. Gotta be careful with high power vacuums.

I think what you could do is use the hard floor attachment for the brushroll and vacuum small rugs with that. I never used mine I don't think, but it might work out. Could also put the Kirby in handheld mode and go over it that way too.

I have a Eureka Optima though that I use for my hall runner and bedroom rugs as they do not have deep fibers and the Optima doesn't have such a huge amount of suction, so it works out great.

My solution to that problem would be to use a different vacuum cleaner for that job. I do lightweight throw rugs with an Electrolux Discovery II upright. I leave the brush roll turned off until it's on top of the rug. Use the right tool for the job, I always say. The Kirby's a beast and is best used for beastly jobs.

Another option would be to raise the power nozzle another notch after turning on delicate switch? I don’t have that mode but using my Sentria, I just raise it, thought, best solution I’ve found is to using floor attachments

Thanks, low speed and holding the rug fown down is doing the best so far like Huskey said. And of course the floor took works but I want the use brush roll on it. I'm glad the main rugs don't have the "bathroom" rug backing.

@mariotron do you own any vacuums besides the Kirby that you could use? personally I would prefer a canister or central vacuum with a straight suction nozzle. Even a stick vacuum might lend itself better for that job.
Why Kirby's are excellent quality and excellent Vacuums in general I personally don't find that they lend themselves to doing a multitude of flooring.

Have you considered keeping a compact canister for jobs like this?
Anytime that I would sell a Royal,santaire,Oreck I would always pair with a compact canister. A good example of this is a Miele C1 .

I reply: Absolutely! I became an instant Kirby fan the evening I rescued my first Gsix from the dumpster. Running it with a completely full bag that must have weighed about five pounds and a belt that was about to break, it was still hungry for more. There's just nothing quite like a Kirby.
