Need Some help with Painting my 1076 Comvertible

Hello...My hoover 1076 convertible needs a new paint job bad i was wondering what the original colors were...the base now is like a cream white and the hood is a Banana yellow..Anyone know the origional colors and the names..Tom Anderson..Fred anyone.

And by any chance would anyone know where i can get a logo to put back on it..its logo is missing off the base(its a Metal base BTW)

Your Convertible colors are Ceylon Yellow and Taupe. The taupe is easy to match. You can get "Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy Almond" from your local Home Depot. This is a very good match to the original metal base and handle. You have to sand the base so that the paint can adhere. I would prime it first then use the almond spray paint. Tape off the bumper or you can remove it depending how far you want to go with it. I simply remove the motor so that it does not get any overspray on it. You might want to email Kirbyvertibles (Phillip) as he has had plenty of experience lately painting these wonderful machines. I believe a Hoover logo of some type is still available for the 1076 Convertible. Check with Hoover or your local vac shop. Keep us all posted on your progress. That machine is worth saving as those old metal Hoover Convertibles clean and clean and need very little upkeep and are getting harder and harder to find.

If you take the bumper off you have to use pop rivets and that is a pain to me, but I am lazy lol. I have done it that way but it is very easy to just tape the heck out of it. If you get any on the rubber don't freak out, just take some oops or a Mr. clean eraser and the paint will come right off. Take the motor off like Tom said, or tape a peice of paper over it if you wish. Again the over spray will come right off. MAKE sure that if you clear coat it to wait a few weeks for the paint to cure. If you put it on too soon then the paint will bubble and rise right before youe eyes. It's kind of neat to watch, but very depressing after you have spent all the time and then have to do it all over again.
My first paint job was great, it was the 34 special. The second one gave me all kinds of hell and I painted it three times and I still am not happy with it (U4001) All the rest have been judt fine. Thanks Tom about the tip on the Taupe color. I have few from the era and was wondering what to use to match that. Any idea what to match Seal Greige (sp?) with.
