Need advice!

Hello all! My name is Ed and I am new to posting on this website. I have had an account on Vacuumland for some time, but I have never posted and I feel like I should! I need some advice. I have a Hoover steamvac widepath that is about 12 years old, and while it does a great job at cleaning my carpets, I would like to retire it and get a new machine. I tried to do this a few years ago by buying a new Hoover steamvac, but it is already broken. The handle release is broken, the hose split, and now it's just not working correctly. I know I can probably fix it, but I would like to just get a newer, more reliable machine to do the job. I was looking at Rug doctor and Bissell Big Green, but im open to any suggestions.

In my home, I have two rooms with berber carpeting. I also plan on shampooing a few of my family members houses once I get a new machine.

I would go with the Rug Doctor, but look into an Oreck Orbiter as a companion machine. Before I deep clean any carpet, I bonnet clean the carpet to loosen soil and remove stains. Then I simply rinse with my non-SpinScrub Steamvac. The results are amazing.  I wasted too many hours working with just an extractor, when I with the Orbiter I can clean in less time for a better job. You will not regret it. Low pile carpet like berber and commercial grade tend to be best suited for a bonnet cleaning combo from what I hear. 


 


The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro is exactly the same machine they rent out, and I often see those machines run perfectly with hundreds of hours on them. The performance at the hose is excellent as well. If you haven't already, rent one for a few hours and see how you like it.

Thanks for the advice! I was looking at the oreck machines, and I thought it would do a good job, and I would be able to do my hard floors also! I will have to look into it. I work occasionally at a local vac shop, and the boss says the spin scrub is the best, but he also has orbiters. I may have to try one out.

Bissell Big Green will outclean Rug Doctor; & the Big Green is easier to use because it:
1. Cleans in forward & reverse unlike the Rug Doctor that cleans only in reverse.
2. Emptying leftover cleaning solution from a Rug Doctor takes too much effort; unlike the Bissell Big Green that has two removeable tanks so emptying the Big Green's tank(s) is so much easier.
3. The Big Green's brush roller always rotates when deep cleaning carpets; the Rug Doctor's vibrating brush operates only when dispensing cleaning solution onto the carpet.
4. The Big Green gets even the dirtiest carpets really clean almost like new.[this post was last edited: 6/5/2013-01:21]

I was leaning more towards the bissel for those reasons. I want to go to my local true value hardware store and rent one for a day to try it out. I have a busy weekend ahead of me, so it won't be too soon. Thanks for all of the info!
