Need a measurement on Aerus Electrolux upright hose

Hi, if there’s anyone out there who has an aerus Or Electrolux upright with a genuine power hose attachment, could you reply with the outside and inside diameter of the machine end of the hose? Short of buying one to get it, I thought this might be easier. I’ll update after I get the measurement the experiment.

The number I need is the wisest point across the machine end of the hose both from the inside walls of the hose and outside walls of the hose.

Upright hose machine end

Mine appears to be approximately 1-7/8" OD, 1-5/8" ID. It is soft rubber. I tried converting it to a Model G hose without success. I believe using an inner piece of tubing, glued to the ID of the metal machine coupling and also glued to the ID of the soft rubber hose might work.

You would need to remove the very end cuff that fits inside the machine to make it work.
I have been working on adapting one for a while and instead if spending time to grind down the electrical plug to fir the canister socket I finally got the right hose.

Here’s my idea... I’m considering a rubber reducing fitting sold in the plumbing section of Home Depot and Lowes. Since I do a lot of remodeling and plumbing work ....these came to mind. They’re usually gray or black and have the stainless steel hose clamps on either end for connecting and or reducing pvc waste pipe connections. I’m hoping one end of one could glue into the metal cuff and then the other end slip over or into the Electrolux hose end and then use the hose clamp to keep them together snugly and airtight. There are several sizes of these adapters sold so I wanted to see if there’s one that might fit these dimensions before spending money on an upright hose. And yes, I’d have to file down the rubber plug end but using a metal file and or rasp carefully with the plug clamped in my vise could allow this to be done relatively painlessly.

Have you tried these fittings already by chance?

With pigtail hoses becoming more and more rare I’d like to have an alternative option “ready to go” for the future without having to resort to a generic hose.

Reducer

I've used quite a few reducers. They have white PVC. You can order online and pick up. They run $1.50.

That still leaves the existing issue that the electrical connector is too large to fit into the plug on a G or similar machine. Im going to try and get mine to the bench grinder and gently work away at the rubber to see if i can make it small enough to fit into the connector and still hold tight enough not to pop out.
 
Saw

Get wire connectors crimp onto each terminal. You could put heat shrink over it and heat it up to seal it so you have no live metal anywhere.

Interesting your upright hose is different from most genuine ones I’m seeing on eBay...most have the one piece rubber cuff that the wire comes out of. Yours seems to have a multi layered style. Also there’s that metal ring around it between the hose and the wire exit.

Yes, clearly the plug needs to be reduced in size, but I think it’s doable with some patience and care...just enough to create a tight fit into the recessed outlet and we can use our genuine pigtails hose’s plug as a side guide by measuring. Use metric ruler if you have one as they are more precise for small measurements.

I love a good challenge and if the solution works well, it can be done again in the future. I don’t like having to doctor things poorly. I’m not a “duct tape will fix it” type of guy. (Though I have been known to wrap the old leaking braided hoses with duct tape in the past! But nowadays I can afford to buy a new one.

Keep in mind both the plug and outlet are rubber so they will give a little so don’t overdo it when downsizing the rubber on the pigtail plug connector.
 
I have another upright hose, identical bit on better shape than this one. That was why I decided to cannibalize it for the experiment. I wish I took pictures of the process, I had to remove the metal ring and slide the while cuff end apart.

Yes, you're talking to a farm boy here so luckily I've had my share of experience rigging things together...this has just been back burnered several times. Now that I have the proper hose for reference I can try and get this one done. I'll need to find a suitable epoxy for the hose connecotr
