Yikes Alan. I remember that book. I didn't read it, but my roommate in college did. I must get it now. Again, from Wikpedia - "Little Me was the parody "confessional" self-indulgent autobiography of "Belle Poitrine" (French for "Pretty Bosom," aka "Gorgeous Tits"), subtitled The Intimate Memoirs of the Great Star of Stage, Screen and Television, by Patrick Dennis, who had achieved a great success with Auntie Mame. A bestseller when introduced in book form, the work was also later staged on Broadway as a musical."

Fred, what a beautiful group those three make. I have to agree with you, there is nothing like an Electrolux polisher. It has the weight and power to do a fantastic job. Thanks for the glam shot!!
 
Little Me

One of my favourite books ever. The parody is delicious, and shows Dennis's love for Old Hollywood in its spot-on detail. I love Belle's co-stars- Letch Feeley, Lyons Maine, Helen Highwater, and Magdalena Montezuma. Her movie titles are just as much fun- there was her silent, Plutarch's Wives and her Western, Caw Girl.

Even when Belle hits the skids, she's fun- singing in a dive called Le Baiser de Mort (The Kiss of Death). She's hysterically oblivious to everything, including creditors taking her movie studio away while she's doing a big Bavarian-style production number called "Gemuchlichkeit"- Belle hasn't got a clue anything's wrong till the fake Alps start getting rolled offstage.

There have been stage versions of Little Me, but none of them have remotely done the book justice. Those beautifully faked photos of Belle, her world, and her pals are the icing on the cake.

I had forgotten "A Streetcar named Desire", and it's one of my favorite Tennessee Williams works. I have a DVD hiding somewhere. Remember Belle in "Weird Wives"? "Gay Husbands"? The Belletch Baby Starlets? Alice Pierce, Kaye Ballard, and Patrick (Edward Everette Tanner) Dennis, made appearances in those funky fotos. Oh, and to continue in the vacuum vein, I see my mom's Model L, that I miss more every day.
 
rare Kirby?

hello Fred and Tania,
I can see an unusual Kirby on picture 16 (of 23). Is this a potpourri of different Kirby parts or did this model really exist? What is the printing on the handle? Are there detailed photos?

Whenever things will have gotten calm again, can you find the time to post some?

I believe that you are referring to the ComVac next to Tania. This was a commercial machine made by Kirby about the time of the Heritage. It has the Heritage outer bag but the body is definitely from the 500 series. It has a commercial cord. It is unusual but a fabulous machine. Tania and I found it in the attic of a vac store in Wisconsin, brand new. Here is a closeup.

Thanks for the speedy upload, Fred. This is hot news, I never knew Kirby made commercial vacuums at all. (Well, over here, they began selling only from the Heritage/Legend models upwards, but I am not sure).
