At long last, my vacuum cleaner worship -- my Inner Sanctum -- has been completed.

I also have seven old rocket-ship, satellite and ufo-inspired vacuum cleaners from the 1950s that I'm going to hang from the ceiling with wires, and I have a line on a decent oriental rug for the floor.

This has been a free-time, work-in-progress project for over two years!

I knew I had really missed having a workshop to putter around in, but I didn't realize just =how=much= I had missed it until I got this one set up and started spending time there. It seriously feels as though a missing piece of my life, my identity, has been found and returned to me.

Here are some photos, and below is a link to a short video. When you go to the YouTube video, select 1080P/HD resolution for the best-quality video. (Btw, the clattering sound from the bag cleaner is not due to bad bearings; it's the noise that the agitator roller makes.)

I See

That old model V Lux...is that the one I fixed all those years ago !! I cant believe its been 18 years since I was there! ohhh, I see a couple of early Filtexes!!! They are non existant here.

Hi Hans, yes, that's the Model V you fixed for me. It's one of my cherished "keepers." Sure did have a lot of fun that week, didn't we! :P

Thanks, David. You should come down and visit sometime!

Say, I'd be up for hosting a West Coast Mini-Meet if I can get enough folks interested.

Charles, congratulations on getting your workshop up & running! I know you will enjoy puttering around it & working on machines. And I am sure you will do some beautiful restoration work in your new shop, too.

Lucky me! A recently vacated apartment in the building next door is being renovated. Yesterday I saw carpet layers over there who brought two fairly good-sized rolls of brand-new carpeting outside and put them on the meridian strip between the sidewalk and the curb. I asked them if they were throwing the carpet remnants out and they said yes. I asked if I could have them and they said yes. So I took them back to my garage-workshop and cut the two pieces to fit. Doesn't it look purty! The next big step will be to hang my set of "rocket ship" vacuums from the ceiling. That will come soon.

Absolutely! I was literally "Johnny on the Spot" -- I walked outside just as they were dumping the rolled-up remnants of brand-new carpet by the sidewalk. If I had come by 5 minutes later I'm sure someone else would have gotten them.

Most likely the contractor had to estimate the amount of carpeting needed and billed on that basis. The older apartments around here are very catty-cornered with all sorts of nooks and crannies. I imagine it would have been difficult to estimate the exact amount needed. The larger piece was about 9x12ft. and the smaller one about 6x8ft.

This probably happens all the time -- so I imagine it wasn't any big deal to the installers to discard a few remnants. They probably figured someone would come along and take them. In fact, I myself brought out remnants from the remnants and left them by the sidewalk; there were two pretty big pieces left over, good for a couple of throw rugs -- and they were gone in a matter of minutes!

Hi Charles

Your workshop Looks fantastic may you enjoy many hours in it having fun

I know what its like not having a workshop. When we moved our vacuum shop from a building on our property to its current location last year I lost my night time and weekend vintage workshop as I used to use my shops workshop.

Even though we have a awesome workshop at our new place there is no time for my passion of restoring vintage vacuums even though all the restored ones are displayed in my shop.

I recently cleaned out the one of our garages and have started to assemble a workshop there for restoring the vintage vacuums. Its such a great break from the every day rush and stress of life.

I love the Bug eye Its the one vacuum we didn't get in SA That I would love to find or get.

Aaah Thank you very much, I can still remember when I thought I was the only person in the wors who liked vacuum cleaners that was when I came across your website 1377731.com. It was an awesome moment.
