A breif background - My daily drivers have been a Kirby Sentria II (bought brand new about a year ago) and a Numatic Eco Henry (bought brand new about 2 months or so ago)....

The Kirby is fantastic and leaves me feeling like the carpets have really been vacuumed properly, however after a period of only using the Henry (due to its ease) upon using it again I was surprised at how much the Kirby picked up that the Henry had been missing in such a short period of time - even though I had been using the Henry with the airo brush.

So this left me with a dilemma.

For day to day / can't be bothered vacuuming moods the Henry was so much easier, however I now didn't feel like it was cleaning properly. Or at least not as well as I'd like it to. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic machine, the issue really was the massive difference in carpet care between it and the Kirby. To be expected though I suppose.

At least thats the excuse I'm using for upgrading and I'm sticking to it!

So. I wanted a cylinder to contrast the Kirby. I also wanted cleaning ability to rival the Kirby so that I'd feel my carpets were spotless regradless of the machine I had used. This only really left one choice...

Que the Sebo D4 Premium Eco.

I did consider the Miele Complete C3 Comfort Electro EcoLine Plus - however with a price tag of £600 and then the stupidly high cost of bags and filters I decided against the idea.

I've had a few electro nozzle machines in the past - Henry Turbo (reasonable performance) - DC21 Motorhead (fantastic performance but pig awkward for using the small tools) - AEG UltraOne with electro head (very cheap hose let this machine down).... The Sebo is just fantastic!

Very pleased with it and only paid £350 brand new from Amazon.

Not a lot I can say about it really. Performs flawlessly and is very quiet - the power head is noiser than the main motor on full power. Huge bags - 6 ltr, extra long cord - 12 meters giving a total of 15.5 meter cleaning range, big S class sealed filter system and cheap running costs.

The picture of the bag contents is what it has picked up after the house was vacuumed the previous day from top to bottom with the Kirby. Most of it is general carpet fluff but there is also some dust and dirt in there. I also noticed it found some larger particles such as grit that the Kirby must of snowploughed and then missed the previous day.

The only issue now is that it's so good I won't be bothered about using the Kirby!

Nice new SEBO D4 Premium Eco you have there. Do like that model. How you finding the new 700 watt Eco motor in it? Bet the 6 litre bags will last a while. The ET-1 power head is great at carpet cleaning, mine on my Felix is yet to have a new brush bar after 7 years use. Brush turfs still protrude the soleplate.

oh, your KIRBY must feel terrible! replaced by German Engineering! It's likely in the closet right now, thinking what it could've done to deserve this fate! Run to it, Take it in your arms, and KIRBY the house! You're doing something right if another vacuum can barely pull squat out of the carpet!

That is great to hear. The Sebo is AWESOME! I'm looking forward to the E Series which should be available beginning of next year :)

Cheers guys :)

Madaboutsebo - The suction is great.
On full power it is not too powerful, but not under powered either. I'd say it's just right anyway.
Gone are the days of buying a machine with a stupidly powerful motor and only using it on the half way setting because anything more was too much.

I'm using it on full power for general cleaning and reduce it to about half way when using the tools.

I've also noted that it produces very little heat.

I'll try making a video later today....

Very nice looking machine! The main cannister unit looks quite large...what are its dimensions? Several years ago I tried a Sebo but I was worried that the exposed wire on the hose handle would be easy to rip loose by accident.

Gary

The exposed wire is one of the weaknesses of the D4 and K3 premium. You just have to be careful with it I guess. It is covered by the warranty. But it would be better if the cable wasn't exposed.

Marcusprit - While I can see where you are coming from regarding the cable being subject to more risk, I personally prefer this set up.

Look at it this way... internal or external this area on an electro hose is going to be a main wear area. Or at least in my eyes it's the end thats most likely to fail as its the part thats twisting and turning about the most.
Say if the cable was built into the internal part of the hose handle and it was to break, would this mean a new hose?

Yes the cable is exposed at the flexing joint on the Sebo handle, but it clips right off for very easy replacement should it become damaged or wear due to age / use.

I've seen them for sale somewhere quite cheaply, however here is an example of the small cable joint available from Amazon.... It comes as a kit with an electro telescopic tube too, however I've seen the connector cable for sale by itself...

Cable joint and electric telescopic tube from Sebo - £41
Electric telescopic tube from Miele - £139

I'm quite happy with the easy replace and repair option Sebo have gone with... not to mention the cheap repair costs should this cable fail!

Countryguy - You're right in the machine looking quite large. It is, quite simply, a beast.

In the UK at least I think it is the largest domestic cylinder machine on the market in terms of size, capacity and cleaning range.

The main unit dimensions are roughly 20 x 14 inches.

Here are a few pics of it stood with my Kirby to give you a better visual idea of size.

It really wouldn't be suited to a small house or apartment thats for sure!

The size isn't an issue for me, I've never found the Kirbys size an issue so the Sebo is a breeze. I quite like em big, pardon the pun hahaha :')

And the pre motor filter to allow for maximum air flow pulling from the top is genius and a very good exhaust filter. It's very well designed.

Me too :)

The ONLY thing I would change or add to this machine would be a headlight on the power brush.

The LED headlight on the Kirby is very handy and helps point out things in dark corners ect... would of been a nice touch to add one on the Sebo

haha I'll get one of those miners lamps and strap it to my head!

Just had a mooch about on the net trying to find out about the new E series....
Found this on the Sebo german website... If this is indeed an image of the new E series I already don't like it!

Looks very small and compact

It is compact. I think it's a 3.5 litre bag. It's a little bigger than the K series. Ideal for a small to medium size home. I quite like it :-)
