My New Rainbow SRX 🌈

Yikes!

Sounds like the price is going to come in higher than I was hoping. I'll find out tomorrow. I don't plan to finance anything with Rainbow, so the APR piece isn't an issue for me. $3600 is going to be a touch pill to swallow when my current Rainbow doesn't NEED to be replaced by any means. In fact- I had it setup the other day and sent a pic to my Aunt and she thought it was brand new! LOL

LuxLife- thanks for the recommendation on waiting a while and buying used. I may have to do that if the price turns out to be above $3k. My use-case is a little different than yours, however, as I've never felt any inclination to swap out a Rainbow for any other machine. I plan to keep it until Rexair churns out a newer model that I just can't live without. Hopefully that isn't for another 15 years. :)

Would you care to elaborate on the design elements of the SRX that appear potentially problematic? Balancing the machine on stairs looks more challenging than previous models, and the basin is a little small. What else have you noticed?

At first I couldn’t justify paying what I did. But after a few weeks of using it and it’s many features it truly pays for itself. Like all the pros of owning this system out ways the cons, which is only the price tag. For me my cleaning needs are floors, upholstery and air cleaning. A few family members that I live with have breathing problems and when using this, it works and helps their breathing. Also I own dogs and the groom tool is a blessing all on its own. Since using that tool (about daily) my dogs don’t itch and bit themselves like they use too. Also they’re not afraid of the noise, even on speeds 3 and 4. Speed 2 also works on grooming too.

Things I’ve noticed.

Being that I own both the E2 Black and The SRX there are a few things about the new machine that in my opinion are somewhat cons.
-The Basin is smaller and not as thick of plastic as the E2
-The machine becomes hotter during use than the E2 making me wonder the lifespan of the motor.
-The Powerhead is huge and can be cumbersome at times.
Overall, some things seem cheaper to me but all in all I still love the machine and I’m glad to have it. I just hope it holds up as long as previous models.

WTF

These prices are crazy, I guess your distributors go through several hands before they reach their office. My guy deals directly with the factory, I paid $1,275 for my black e2 in 2013, he knows that I know how much he paid. As for the new one I told him $1,600 cash is all I think is fair. I guess it all depends on where you live

I also got mines also from a factory distributor in Lakeland Florida. And 3000 is about right for the new SRX model. I’ve called several distributors in my area to see who could get me the best deal, but instead I went with someone who’s been in business for over 40 years and had great reviews online. Question what other shampoo can use in my MiniJet other than aquamate solution. Also if anymore has said SRX model can y’all do a video with the optional accessories so we can see how the accessories work and function on the new SRX.

Haven’t reached back out to him yet, I’m in no hurry. But if he does accept I will let anybody interested know

Pulled the Trigger

So I bought... got the Rainbow, the mini powerhead, Aquamate shampooer and the 14 foot hose. I'm really pleased with it so far: it's a lot quieter than my old E2 two-speed, and I really like the 4 speed options for different cleaning tasks and for air purification.

Message me if anyone has any questions about the new Rainbow!

New SRX Owner! Questions on Air Purifier

I just purchased today... so far I am very impressed. Does anyone know how long you can run the machine if using it as an air purifier? I don’t see any mention in the manual. Is it safe to run it 24/7 on the lowest speed if you keep the basin full? Or are there time limits? I wasn’t sure if it would work as my current air purifier which just runs all the time. TIA

@denverblueeyes - Congratulations!

It's fine to run your machine 24/7. I do it now frequently with the SRX, and used to do it with my previous E2 as well. Presumably, it is fine to run the machine for extended periods on any speed, as the 90 minute timer works on all 4 speed settings. I often set mine on speed 3 for an hour or so, or a few hours on speed 2. It'll clean up the air nicely after burning food, etc.

A couple things to keep in mind:
1. Watch the water level on the lowest speed. Depending on where you live and your relative humidity, it is likely that you'll have to add water a couple times a day. If it gets too low, the incoming air hardly hits the water and there's no splashing onto the the separator. You're basically just filtering via the HEPA filter at that point. If I'm letting mine run 24/7 I will overfill the basin a little so it will run longer. Just don't do that on the higher speed settings or the machine might flag the error light.
2. Always start with a clean basin when running the Rainbow as a filter, especially on the lowest speed.
3. Be careful with the timer. One of the biggest mistakes you can make with your Rainbow is storing it on a wet/damp basin- it will rust out the motor bearings. If you run the machine on high for 90 minutes, and then it shuts itself off, you don't want the hot motor sitting on a basin full of water for very long. I don't use the timer feature at all; I'm concerned I'd forget about it and it would sit there way to long.

Enjoy your new Rainbow!

It certainly is a nice looking machine. I admire Rexair's history of technological invention. Water filtering technology in the early years of electricity was a miracle of engineering. Looks like they continue new technology development with the magnetized hose locking mechanism, the washer squeegee, and the hinged tank designs

Hopefully they will work out and prove to be durable and uphold Rexair's reputation for well-built long-lived machines.

@lux_luthor

I don't think the new wands fit any of the older E series hoses, especially for the older models that don't have direct connect. I haven't specifically tried what you're asking about, but I did stick the extraction head from the E2 Aquamate shampooer made for the 1 and 2 speed E's on the hose of my SRX the other day in a pinch (to suck up a kitchen spill) and it does not fit properly onto the SRX hose. This leads me to believe the wands are tapered differently.

I don't think a new hose would accomplish this either, since the new SRX hose features a very different connection to the Rainbow canister. If you were to make this hack work, you'd have to do it at the hose/wand connection to bridge the wands and electrical connections there. There could also be a chance that the previous generation E's wet-certified direct-connect hose could accomplish this but I can't test that for you since I don't own that machine.

If you'd like, I can verify if the SRX wands are compatibly with the older E style later this evening.

I would appreciate it! 😃

I ask only because I’m getting an E series 1 speed and as a future upgrade I was thinking of getting the one of the new power nozzles for it.

Sure

I can check later tonight.
I'd heard of owners of the earlier E2's buying the previous generation's wet certified electric hose so that they could use the new Aquamate... that's a huge improvement over the old Aquamate with the big white water reservoir. I imagine you could go that route, but the new SRX nozzle is nicer, in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of the narrow air path on the unit with the edge cleaning brushes.

I was wrong

A wand from my old E2 does click into the wands and powerhead of the SRX. :)
I can’t test connecting anything electrical because I only have a wand from my old machine, but the wands fit!
Good luck!

You know what I just thought of that would be a great idea for the rainbow, primary for the MiniJet accessory. What if Rexair designed a turbo shampoo brush that way it can shampoo and scrub at the same time. Kind of like what Hoover use too, or still do. Don’t get me wrong the extraction tool is nice but what if they went beyond that tool as a means of shampooing upholstery and add a spinning brush type shampoo tool to the MiniJet accessory.
