I remember when I was a kid, my grandmother had a Presto Super Speed electric percolator. I am a coffee drinker, and I have a Keurig that I love, but sometimes I want to make a pot instead of one cup at a time. I wanted a Presto, like my grandmother's, and found this one on eBay. It's a Hoover percolator and it is really a rebadged Presto. If you covered the badges on both and set them side by side, you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart. This link is to the auction I bought it from. Hope it arrives soon.

Now, you can make HOOVER coffee.

I have tons of coffeepots. One is a tried and true Sunbeam. THe rest are all..... get ready, you guessed it... 'HOOVER".
I've probably had 4 cups of coffee so far this year. I'm told I make good coffee.
I guess so. With a HOOVER coffeepot, you can. And, you should. And, I will.

The Old Days

Hi Joe Funny you should say that I also have a Keurig that i love. But last week they had so much caned coffee on sale for crazy low prices so i bought two cans of Folgers and got out my parents Old Doremeyer at least 50 years old it worked like a charm. My friend walked in and said that coffee smells soooo good. So now two days a week i will use my old pot the rest of the week use the Keurig I really dont like the clean up but the coffee is real good. Take care Good thanksgiving to you and your family Doug

I have one of those!

And like you, Joe, I have a Keurig that I adore as well. But I find that I'm using the Keurig less and less, and making coffee the "old-fashioned way" more and more. Most of the time, I use a General Electric Brew Starter automatic drip machine (because it has a built-in timer) -- though once in a while I'll use the timer on my kitchen radio and break out either the Hoover percolator or one of my others (I also have a Westinghouse Pressure-Flo and a Panasonic).

And the coffee from these old machines is just superb -- you simply can't beat 'em!

Oh -- and John, your coffee IS good! (And I'm not just saying that, either.) For someone who doesn't drink a lot of coffee personally, you certainly do know how to make a really good cup of coffee. Next time I come to Pittston, though, I'll have to bring you some of my favorite blend to make in your Sunbeam -- or better still, in one of your Hoovers. It may just make a convert out of you! :)

Joe, that's a really nice Hoover percolator you found there! I would like to find one for myself, but problem is they rarely show up around thrift stores in my area. I personally prefer to make drip coffee using a drip coffee maker like Bill does. My present machine right now is a vintage Braun coffee maker back from the late 1980's....it's red & black, & it says Made in West Germany, so no wonder why it's still working to this day :-) . I have a new Black & Decker drip coffee maker NIB stored away as a backup though, in case it does decide to quit.

My percolator arrived

And I'm a little disappointed The seller's pictures weren't totally accurate. The lid looks like the leaning tower of Pisa. It didn't get dented in shipping because the box was undamaged. I had multiple choices between the Presto Super Speed and the Hoover variant, but opted for the Hoover. As usual I made the wrong choice. It works fine, but just looks weird. At least it makes good coffee.[this post was last edited: 12/3/2014-06:47]

Dear Joe Alberti, I like that surname, mine (second surname) is Ciliberti, so you can imagine where we come from!.
I ask you not to do this: you don't always make the wrong decisions. You mustn't program yourself wrongly. You say it once, and twice and finally you believe it's true, and it isn't. Just bad luck.
And in spite your percolator has that little problem enjoy it y brew nice coffee . Don't be perfectionist LIFE is anything but perfection at all!. Hugs Gus

Nice pot!! I'm sure that can be fixed, in spite of what you think. I have one of five or six General Electric pot belly pots. The cat pushed it into the floor off of a counter. Not a mark on it, but, the top took a hit, and knocked a dent where the glass top screws in. The cat also destroyed a Dormeyer Silver Chef one day, so I can't keep anything of value on counters.
