During the past week I have bought two new machines. The first is a Rubbermaid commerical portable extractor, and the other is a Bissell Cleanveiw Helix. The Rubbermaid was a Christmas gift, but the one I received had a bad pump. So I sent for a new one and received it yesterday.

I only bought the Cleanveiw because I got a fantastic price on it. It was on sale at Kohls for $89. I had a $50 gift card there, plus a 20% off coupon, and Bissell is giving out $10 rebates. So once I send in my rebate, I will have only spend $17 out of pocket. That is cheaper than most Bissells at the Goodwill!

So this afternoon I began my carpet cleaning adventure with my new Bissells.

Here they are in their boxes

Step One: Prevacuum

To vacuum, I unboxed the Cleanveiw and vacuumed about half the room. By the time I was done, The dust cup was full and filled with dog hair and grit. I am amazed how much grit was in the carpet, and even more so that the Bissell has able to remove it. Take a look for yourself! This is only about three days worth of dirt. The carpet was last vacuumed with my Dyson DC14

By then the carpet was ready to be deep cleaned. To do this I used the rest of the Bissell Fiber Cleansing solution I had. It took me awhile but these were the results. The photo does not accurately portray the color difference; the difference is much more noticeable in person. It should be obvious, but the cleaned side is on the left and the dirty is on the right.

My picture does not want to upload right now, so here is a link

Here is a picture of the Rubbermaid. It is very loud but only draws 10amps. I LOVE the wand. The handle is steel and uses brass fittings. It feels like I'm a real professional carpet cleaner!

Overall I do enjoy using it and it does clean the carpet well. I doubt I could find anything better unless I wanted to spend well over $500. At least I know it will last longer than my Proheat.

I will properly spend the rest of the day and tomorrow cleaning carpets. I am so glad I have ear protection!

I might be seeing things, but does the top of the Rubbermaid canister say Bissell? I know it is a rebadged Big Green, but I've never seen one with both names...

I had one similar to this a LONG time ago but it hooked to the kitchen faucet. How do this one work? From the picture it doesn't look like it hooks to the faucet.

Built in pump

One of the two switches is for a pump and around back you insert that tube into the back and into the water tank which is filled in that hole in the back it's kind of a tank in tank system

No powerbursh or upholstery nozzle. That is to be expected for cheaper portable extractors. I suppose you could attach a Rotovac, and you can always buy a separate upholstery nozzle. I still think that the Rubbermaid is a good machine for only $99.

$99?

That's a really good deal if i recall correctly from some ads the original big green was more expensive. I do like the look of the new wand set up looks a lot sturdier than the old style plastic grip

I was looking at the Edic power brush again, and I noticed that the solution line on the Rubbermaid would not fit the Edic. The Rubbermaid line twists on, while the standard lines on the Edic push to lock. So it is not compatible. Sorry.
