Owner of Sauber

Thought I might post here to give you guys a quick review of mine.

I bought a Sauber Intelligence in July last year from Godfreys in Aus who sell them for around $1600 retail but I haggled to $1300. The perfume catridges work well ($20 aus) and have a nice linen smell and the other is lemon scented. They are very strong and fill up the room quickly. They are made of rubber.

The suction is excellent and the tools are fantastic, I understand Aerus are using a different setup from the hose onwards but the powerheads and hose that come with the Sauber/Lux are of a good quality with buttons on the handle but the hose kinks at the end near the machine.

My main gripe is the fact the bags leak too much dust onto the pre hepa filter that leads to premature suction loss which I find very frustrating. The guy on here who reviewed the Aerus used carbon and anoter filter ontop of the pre motor filter to prevent that from happening though.

My sister uses carpet powder and without knowing that I vacuumed her house and the vac overheated and shut off.

Thank You for....

Sharing. I am interested in the scent cartridges. Aerus told me they would not be available here for a few more months. That was about a week ago. Are the bags your using made of paper or are they the cloth type that we are seeing from places like France? A lot of us in the forum think the cloth type bags would take care of the bag leakage problem. Aerus has already made the bag collar thicker and was hoping that would take care of the problem. It did  help, but when I change the bag, the bottom of the bag has some discoloration and a little residue is on the hepa, which leads me to believe they are still leaking to some extent.

Sincerely,

PR-21..
Godfreys in Australia import them from a lux distributor without the Sauber badging or anything and sell out quickly, they take a while to come in. The yellow is a lemon scent whilst the blue is more of a "fresh" smell.

I'm using the cloth type bags. Once full the bottom is all discoloured. The "flap/lid" of the machine gets slightly dusty underneath to dirt could be possibly sucked in from other places.

Over here we have on all previous models a

Rubber gasket on the tube that pokes through the bag forming  a seal. They took that off with the Guardian Platinum and I think they need to put it back on. Maybe it would solve the discoloring of the bottom of the bag as well as the hepa filter getting dirtier than normal.....

Thanks for sharing that story, now we see proof with out own eyes that those bags will leak also. Maybe it will help dispell the myth that "cloth" bags filter better, but I doubt it. People and vacuum stores promote that agenda with a ferocity you wouldn't believe.

wow

That certainly looks much worse than anything we have experienced ! I wonder if thats why the cloth type bags didn't make it over here? I do wish they would hurry up with the swissaroma.

Amazing

if that isn`t proof that the loved cloth type bags aren't as good as most think I don't know what is .

That has never happened with the paper bags Aerus sells , wow I feel rather picky for the tiny amount of dust that was leaking from my bags . If that's how the cloth type bags filter I do NOT want Aerus to use those.

electromatik...

There are many different melt blown polypropylene bags manufactured of various densities and techniques, just like those made of paper.

Now, to say all MBP bags leak because the Lux International/Sauber melt blown polypropylene bags leaked is unbelievably short-sighted.

That said, if this is normal for Lux International/Sauber bags all leak fine dust, then they should look to Kirby and Miele on the manufacture of high-quality MBP bags...

piano-god:

Thanks for responding and I'm sorry I sounded that accusatory. I did not intend to state that all bags of one type or another leaked. My real intention was to state that "cloth" bags can also leak and are not universally guaranteed to be "better" as some seem to believe. Happy dirt sucking!

gm1982:

Where did you get the idea that Riccar filters better than the Platinum? The Platinum is the same as the Lux model in Europe that has passed the strictest filtration standards of Europe and has bested every machine currently marketed. It's not likely any Riccar can beat it.

One other machine that provides best filtration is a TriStar (esp. the A101 Series [EXL, MG1,MG2, MG3 & CS] models)

I have no idea if Lux changed the PN design at all yet & if they will put back on the rubber gasket on the bag fill tube.

I was unable to edit it... but I was trying to suggest the potential 'best' for all around filtering without any issues. Everyone here seems to be mentioning bags issues with the Sauber/Aerus and dust leaking. I have read many other threads over time about HEPA filtration and have used many vacuums. Seems the least complaints/issues about filtration comes from Miele, Riccar, Sebo and central vacs

Electromatik: in reference to what your were point out- its the Riccar Radiance.

The amount of dirt in Vacshroom's filter is astonishing. I wonder if the Australian units utilize the same bag as Lux International in Europe? We should note that Vacshroom stated his sister used carpet powder. We know that any form of fine powder is deadly to Aerus/Lux clean air systems and he stated his machine overheated and shut off. That probably made his case far worse than it ordinarily would be.

I still say those cloth type bags aren't all they are cracked up to be . They seem to filter well in uprights like Kirby or Oreck but in canisters as Miele and the Sauber they seem to leak .

It`s a mystery to me especially how much they leak in the Sauber the paper bags in the Aerus never leaked that much even with fine dirt I even repaired many with people who use carpet fresh and there was a tiny amount of dust in the canisters or uprights .

I agree Dan.. From Wades report the cloth bags are not the answer. I also seriously doubt the Miele's leak any less.

Miele

I own a Miele vac from around 2001, I cleaned it inside and out and after 6 months of vacuuming a high traffic student house every day leakage was minimal.
Also, after 4 bag changes you get a free pre-motor filter with the factory bags so if they did leak and block that filter it would be changed without cost.

With the Lux/Aerus/Sauber the pre motor filter costs $30 aud and isn't washable.
