Wow that PN doesn't sound right with a color that doesn't match ?

I am going to call my Rainbow guy and find out about the new PN and am gonna have to buy it so I will let you guys know and post it as soon as I get it .

Thanks for the updates Brian I hope they get this platinum fixed I love mine its an awesome vacuum .

Dan

Will the newer platinum machines come automatically with the new PN.? Not sure if I like the idea of an unmatching color either.

Do any of you hi tech guys know how to add a link on this thread to the original thread Dan started. ?

P/N Cover

Mike,

The newer cover looks like it is similar to the side runners of the canister itself. Kinda the inky-navy black and it sticks out like a sore thumb next to the wands, elbow and power nozzle rubbers. I would not want one for sure. If you see the Aerus video corporate released you can see the color is off. Up close and personal I didn't care for it at all. They had similar issues with the blacks on the 1521's when they made the black and chrome units for the salesmen when they ceased metal production in 1992. I heard the cover is shipping now and also parts and supplies are extremely difficult to get eg. hoses, swissaroma scents and additional wands.

Brian

I got two additional wands from tristar that are exactly the same as the platinum wands. My local guy got me and extra combo dust tool and adapter. I am sure they will catch up on the parts backlog soon.

Thanks funeraldirector:

I love your in depth corporate updates about what's happening on the ground. I am sorry to hear that about the push/pull technology. I hope that can be worked out because I thought it was handy. Technological advancement sometimes comes with setbacks. It is trial and error. I agree that metal wands look better. I too like the telescopic system but electrified telescopic wands have proven so problematic for the other companies. It seems they are in the shop for repairs at high rates. Also, I don't know of any telescopic system that will allow you to use an electric mininozzle and power nozzle on the wands AND the handle. Most telescopic wand equipped vacuums use an air driven tool which I hate. Rainbow has a similar setup but with metal wands, so Aerus isn't the only ones not using a telescopic wand. I guess we are nitpicky and want a perfect vacuum but there is no perfect vacuum (lol). I regret to hear all these problems again. It sounds like another Renaissance and we know how they reacted last time. They began stripping features until we all thought they were a goner. For once I wish they would work it out ant stick with it. None of these bugs sound insurmountable compared to the automatic shut off/ejection system. If they made THAT work surely they could get a hose port to work.

My legacy that is now used up in our north Ga mountain cabin is over ten years old. Never had a problem with the wands..

Interesting information Brian on the push pull. So far no prooblem with mine but is that something they will change on the current machines if the problem develops. Thanks. Love your knowledge on Aerus lux and their products.

Well, I must say I do like this new Aerus Platinum, & am tempted to buy one. It looks like an awesome cleaner!! Having said that, I am gonna wait a year or two until they resolve the issues they are having....namely the hose contacts, leaky bags, PN cover being offcolor, etc. I agree that this Platinum, although good, is a "lemon" to some degree like the Renny was at first.

As to the issue of bags & filtration, I agree with most here that the HEPA Cloth bags for the Sauber Intelligence would be overkill to bring them here. It already has a HEPA filter before & after the motor, & is a sealed system....how much more do you need?! The only issue now is making sure the bags don't leak so much dust it shortens the life of the pre-motor HEPA filter. As for the paper Home Solutions bags, though, I would like to see some improvements to their bags in general. One thing I have noticed that is a problem with Aerus-Electrolux bags is the blue sealing strip that holds them together in the back. What I have found over the years, whether using the yellow GermGrabber bags, blue Home Solutions bags, or DVC Multi-Filter 4 ply bags, is that there is at least 2 or 3 in a 12-pack of bags where the sealing strip fails & the bag breaks in the back. For this reason, I only use the Perfect or JohnnyVac HEPA Cloth bags in my Luxes with no afterfilter, like my Grand Marquise, or I use the Arm & Hammer "C" bags from WalMart in machines I use paper bags in, as they are folded over & glued in back like conventional bags are made.

As to the bags failing on the Platinum, I have to wonder whether the suction from the Platinum is too strong for the bags, & it is causing the sealing strip to fail prematurely. One way to find this out would be for Perfect Canister owners who use the paper bags to add their input here, seeing the suction is just as strong on them.

Now, I have a question for Funeraldirector....what is up with the pre-motor HEPA filter?? On the YouTube videos I have seen for the Sauber Intelligence, it says this filter is a Washable HEPA filter....yet the Aerus Platinum is suggesting it be replaced, & says every 6 months or whenever the change filter light comes on. So, is it designed to be washed, dried & replaced in the cleaner, or is it a disposable HEPA filter? And WHY would they not make it a Washable HEPA filter for the North American market if they already have a disposable Sealed True HEPA filter in the back? Seems a bit overkill to have TWO disposable HEPA filters in one vacuum.

I am going to wait a bit later to buy the Platinum until they have the revised units available.

To those who waited a while for buying the Platinum; did Aerus/Lux put the gasket on the bag fill tube yet or do they still forget to put on the bag tube gasket?

Washable HEPA

Hey Rob,

I too noticed that in the Sauber videos about the washable pre-motor filter. I was looking around to see if I saved the one Lux replaced so I could give it a bath and see how it fared. I will definitely try it and see what happens. I think the pre and post filter design is superb even if only for the sole purpose of protecting the motor and fan assembly and final exhaust emissions. The final filter is specifically for the carbon brush dust which is said to be carcinogenic in any vacuum cleaner exhaust. If you notice they also talk about 5 levels of filtration vs 4 on the Platinum so I wonder if the post motor filter is a different part number than ours or actually the same mediclean in the Aerus Platinum. The Sauber site says more new vacuums soon so I am wondering what else is coming down the road.

As for the newest of the new Platinum bags I think these do a good job at an excellent price point. Those of us who used Lux Iota exclusively will never be satisfied with any of the current bags from any manufacturer OEM or otherwise. The Iota bags filtered to .1 microns and were spun-woven poly construction and probably the best vacuum cleaner bag ever made. I am told putting a Miele style bag over the Lux "P" bag greatly reduces the amount of fine dust on the filter for those who are having some issues. I think I suggested this in an earlier post in the original discussion.

At the same time I am not sure how widespread the hose block issue is and heard this from just one tech. I have had no issues and would not let this stop me from buying this machine. Overall it is an affordable machine to use that is convenient and delivers mind-blowing performance in a whisper quiet package. Those of us who worked for Lux or are collectors are generally way more fussy than Mrs. Jones will ever be. My dislike for the Tristar wand system is minor and they too deliver excellent performance in a durable, lightweight design that is easy to repair and arguably more reliable than the problematic telescoping wands on other brands I seem to generally prefer. At least the hose, wands and attachments are still American made.

Regarding 5 levels of filtration...

According to the Lux Intelligence website, the 5 levels are 1) the bag, 2) the prefilter, 3) the carbon layer, 4) the afterfilter, and 5) antibacterial treatment on the afterfilter. It seems to me it's mostly marketing term. The filters look identical on the Aerus machine. Aerus doesn't mention an antibacterial treatment on the afterfilter so maybe they haven't treated it with it. My guess is since the blue bags have the antibacterial treatment in it they chose to forego that step. The Lux Intelligence site makes no mention of washable filter. It says clearly the prefilter should be changed when the light comes on or after 1 year.

On a side note about "HEPA" bags. In order to meet the Dept. of Energy requirement it must have 40 feet of filtering media compressed accordian style. There is no such this as "HEPA" cloth. The manufacturers can claim HEPA due to the total lack of regulation. Most claims of HEPA filtering are fraudulent.

2 hepa

I must say that the dual Hepa's on the Platinum manage to create a very clean machine. I have severe allergies and even with other TOL machines have flare ups while vacuuming. I do not with the Aerus. The filter is not washable on the Platinum, I examined it closely and a few shots of air from a compressor will clean out any dust to prolong life - but no water. After using the new bags Aerus sent me I took the new Hepa I had installed and used the air compressor to try and clean - there was only a spec or two of dust, compared to quite a bit of dust when I used the bag that came with the vacuum. So, hopefully Home Solutions has handled their goof. I have been putting my platinum through it's paces pretty regularly and have not noticed any problems, and yes I am particular lol. I have been using the auto mode more often and find it to work satisfactory. Two filters may seem like overkill to some, but I will gladly replace an extra filter every now and then to achieve a superior level of filtration. Again, I only use high end vacs, and this is my only one that has no negative effect on my allergies. Just an update on my experiences with the new Platinum.

Great update Cliff. I also like the auto mode especially with above the floor cleaning. Floors especially the carpet I use max.

Wow, it doesn't affect your allergies at all? That's a true praise for a vacuum. With word of mouth spreading good news like that it will help it's sales for sure. Rifleman Ray on youtube owns an Aerus store in Richmond, Va. and he says he's selling them like crazy and people are raving about it.

Chris. I have bad dust and pollin allergies also. No problem at all when using my platinum. My old legacy I use at our cabin does a decent job too ..
Actually what has helped a lot is I got a second lux platinum air for the bedroom and since getting the second for the bedroom, never wake up with a stuffed up head

Incidently, you guys won't believe what I read on the Sauber youtube page. Somebody was criticizing the Sauber (same as Platinum) by saying it looked like it was from the 80's and that Dyson was better looking because it looked like it was made in this century! Can you believe that??? Talk about an inability to see taste. LOL

Same here

guys I noticed a decrease in dust in my home its like I am using my Rainbow E Series Onyx as that was the only machine I could use before my Aerus Platinum and have so much less dust .

Its my busy season in Real Estate and I don't have time to use my Rainbow right now until the end of summer if things slow down which I don't see that happening yay more new high end vacuum and Car money :)

Latest News

Hey Guys,

I have heard a couple different things this past week. The first is that the new upright will be that ink black color of the same variety as the one on the Lux Platinum power nozzle cover shipping now. It is rumored to be a new animal in cosmetic appeal only, running the same design/power plant as the current Guardian. I have not heard anything in regards to the colors on the Floorpro or existing units currently manufactured in Bristol, VA.

The second is that this issue with the bags will again be revisited and perhaps some of us might be more satisfied with the end result. This is rumor mind you.

There is said to be a major push on water purification and we will just have to wait and see I guess.

Is this the newest style PN here? It looks like Lux went back to making the PN more "square" like the early Epic 6500SR instead of "rounded" like the current Legacy.

I wonder which one looks better of the two styles?

Well that's certainly disappointing news isn't it? I guess it was too much to expect a complete vacuum overhaul when they are clearly focusing on air and water filtration. I see no reason to call the upright a Platinum if they aren't incorporating the double HEPA filtration system into it. They also need to remove that boxy add on filter on the side. All of these machines would look better with that smooth black shiny finish but I guess they would scratch easily with it. I'm just glad the Platinum is here because I want a canister.

hmmmm... I would have to see the new upright and hope they will modify it a little, sealed HEPA filtration, loose the boxy add on HEPA side filter and add direct connect electric hose. If they keep the same unit and just change the color to match the platinum canister, then that's seriously pathetic. I think they are looking towards water and air filtration for growth strategy. But if they do not update the new upright with better features, then I would look towards Riccar and Miele in the upright category... definitely better in many aspects, (filtration, on board tools, hose length, metal bottom plate, fit and finish) sidekick aside!
