I Got this Royal heavy duty yesterday from a friend. This is really rare as Royal was not available in SA till 2008 .

Its a 612v model with  serial no I91115313C 220v

It runs beautifully But needs a clean up and I was really surprised that it has a Paper bag  system in it

Does any one Know how old it is I am not sure but think it could be from the 70's or 80's

Thank you I found a stamp on the floor nozzle 91  so that could be its year. I have just stripped it down and replaced the main bearing and giving it a good polish up, Got to clean that bag to, the previous owner didn't use a paper bag in it so its very dirty and dusty

Yes, this was built in 1991

Gareth,

The serial number has a date code "I91" which means it was made in September of 1991. At that time, Royal had already been using the 9-blade impeller fan rather than the antiquated 6-bladed one. The "C" at the end of the serial # is the motor series revision.

What Royals I have delt with are really nice vacuums! Gerald sells them in his vacuums and more store in Castleton.

All done at 1.40am

I had to wash the bag as I want to use this one and it was just to dirty so I lost what was left of the decal, I will have to get a new bag some time , Maybe a blue one:) are they readily available in the USA

So I used this today to do the house cleaning, using my Dyson dc37 and 35 for around the edges and hardflooring.

This Royal got me think how far off track I think Kirby has gotten since the 500 series, I love my legend II BUT this thing is much ighter and does a better cleaning job, Even compared to my ultimate G and sentria This ting is easy to move and carry and I didn't feel tired after using it like I do with the Kirby's.

I am very impressed with this machine, I love those big wheels, They remind me of the wheels fitted to nascar's

You did a fantastic job on this royal! Looks like new!  I wish that I had your polisher!  I just use mothers aluminum polish with

0000  steel wool to polish kirby's

Nice Find Gareth!

Can't beat a Royal, they're powerful, maneuverable, and durable. Can't ask for more than that! You did an excellent polishing job, it's beautiful!
I have what is probably the USA version of your machine, the 1028Z. This pic was taken before I cleaned it up, but is the only pic I have of this one.

If the grey dump bag has the plastic fill tube-you can use paper bags on it-Its just harder to do than with a zipper bag.Esp when the paper bag is full-lifting it from the cloth one is harder-but can be done. Some Royal dealers promoted that you could use that type of cloth bag either as a dump bag-or use it with paper "B" bags.TTI-Hoover "B" bags fit Royals, too.
