My last two Hoover 63s ready for good homes

Beyond impressed on all three vacuum cleaners. Marty, I assume you hand stitched the new bag and did the embroidery yourself- kudos to your wonderful talent! If only more people could look at that bag and be completely impressed.

Also love the wacky Lark pattern- another severe dose of creativity!

That's a Kirby 515, one of my favorites. I'll show you more pics as soon as I have it reassembled. I took a notion to dismantle it late yesterday to give the motor the full "treatment."

Thank you for all of your kind words. What a nice group of people we have here!

Morgan - the embroidered logo is hand stitched. In fact, I used the machine to sew up the denim bag...not necessarily easier than hand sewing, but definitely faster.

Great work Marty. If I could I would love to own one of your restored masterpieces.

Just wondering, would you be willing to make and sell me a bag for my 63?

Sam

As the proud owner of one of Mr. Kaplan's restored model 63's, I can tell you firsthand it really is like getting a factory fresh Hoover! Never before have I seen such a thorough restoration. The hours he spends lovingly restoring these cleaners really shows through in his work. I'm especially impressed with the denim bag that he fabricated from scratch. I hope these two find good homes with club members.

Marty.....To partially steal John's words......

I'm impressed. Not beyond impressed - I've seen your work before. Wonderful job on the Hoovers. They look as if they are being taken out of the box for the first time and being demonstrated for prospective buyers!

Great job!
Rick

ps. The wacky machine is way cool!

WOW!!!!!

They are both ABSOLUTELY beautiful! they look brand new! I was just wondering how much one of them is worth?

Not just a Hoover guru...

I am fortunate to call Marty a friend, live in the same city, and own quite a few vacs that have spent time at "The Marty Kaplan Vac Spa", and they come back "factory-fresh"! My Singer S2 was also a project he took on, and it's like new again, so he's just not about Hoover, he just knows his s--t!

Just beautiful, Marty -

I can imagine how much work that bag took, and the painstaking work of re-creating the front letters. Great craftsmanship. And that Lark - this could turn into a new trend!

The Hoover Lark reminds me of a bunch of old Electroluxes that a man did up in fun colors some years ago. One in particular that stands out was a red, white and blue "patriotic" XII. If I recall correctly, those "fashion makeovers" infuriated a certain club member to no end.......!

btw Fabulous job on the 63s, Marty. That's a beautiful machine in its own right -- it's nice to see such loving care lavished onto these specimens.

Thanks Charlie!

Just last night I was looking at your restoration of the Kirby 508. Beautifully done as always!

It made me realize that I am missing the fiber board baffle that mounts in front of the field coil on the 515 I'm working on right now.

Two questions:

1) Got a spare???

2) Obviously my 515 had been surviving nicely without it for who knows how many decades, so, in your opinion, how important is its presence in the final assembly? I suppose I can try to make one out of sheet paper gasket material but getting it just the right size and shape is going to be a challenge.

Marty

Marty, that gasket helps keeps schmutz out of the motor, so it's pretty important. I don't have any spares but someone might, or you could make one from thin cardboard.

Marty & Kirby 515...

Hello Marty.

I'm not sure if you are aware that the 'field baffle paper' is still an available part. I will be ordering more, probably next week. They would not be very much cost-wise for you, just let me know.

You do great work Marty; however, if it's still available for sale?!?!?!? LOL

Hope this helps.

Cheers & hagn all.

Bill
