My Kirby 509

after adjusting the brushroll and putting on a rather well used soft rubber belt the machine cleans well, can you still get the soft rubber belts for the pre-generational Kirbys ? ive been using a knurled type on my Heritage 2 without hassle yet, but ive heard from several sources id want the soft rubber belts for the older kirby to put less stress on the bearings

If

You contact kirbyneeds on ebay I'd the best place to get them. The tight belts cause a strain on the motor and either break your belt lifter or spin your bearings.

also if anyone has any suggestions for LED replacement headlight for the 500 series, ive tried two different types for this and both have burnt out over a process of a minute or less, they are stated to be 120v but all 3 lamps ive tried have failed

I'll give those a try, the last ones I used looked similar but for some odd reason the bridge rectifiers on them gave out, I dont know if I got bad bulbs or what

LED

Why use LED lights? You can find and buy the 15 or 25-watt incandescent appliance lights all day long. Having said that I'm very much old school. Old style lights, for an old style vacuum.

But

We upgrade with new rivets, bearings, belts etc. I like thevLED look but I get your point. The bulb in my 511 looks oem but LED last longer.

But

Les,

I don't consider new rivets and new bearings or belts as "upgrades" just replacements to me there is a difference, but again that's just me. If you like the look of the LED's I get that it's a personal preference. The fact that they last longer is not a big deal to me, after all how much use will this vacuum see. "To each his own"

Good looking 511 Les with the original bag too....nice!

main reason was heat, but also the fact I can't just go to a store and buy incandescent bulbs anymore since they where phased out, which is why I tried the warm white sewing machine replacements

phased out

Adam,

Interesting, they haven't been phased out here yet in the states, but maybe I should pick up a few extra just in case. Also, a 15-watt light if you can find one doesn't burn that hot to be a problem....good luck I hope you can find one that will work for you.

black bag and cord are ordered, I wont get rid of the white cord or bag, also have a spare 40w incandescent in the machine, and a rainbow belt for now as more soft style belts are on the way as well,
