Ever since I was a small lad, I've loved the Hoover Galaxy. I remember seeing them brand new in department stores, and had the brochures that came with them. Of course, what with them being bloody rare, I never actually owned one.

Until a few weeks ago, when I became the proud owner of an Electronic 1400w SC228! It's brilliant. Is based on a Hoover Commpact from the same era, but it has great airflow, is manouverable and just looks so damn good!

I find the plastic extension tubes that came with it painfully short so borrowed the tubes from my DC02, which makes it useable. I finished giving it the spa treatment yesterday, and she is as done as she can be for the moment, need to try and find a new top bearing as it's pretty worn, but they aren't available any more!

I did a short* rebuild thread on it here...

They are not "more common" here in the UK because they were very cheap to buy and designed to fall to peices. Also, at the time they were on sale, Hoover had many other cleaners in production - the choice was astounding. All these factors mean that some 20+ years later they are not to be found.

Cheap plastic disposable cleaners, from Hoover - who better? But I rather liked them never the less.

Hoover Galaxy

Back in the spring of 1994, I spend three weeks on a tour of Germany and Austria. One of the places we stopped was a shopping center in Berlin called Ka De We. I saw the Hoover Galaxy there and would have loved to bring one back to the states, but with different voltage figured it was impractical. It's a shame Hoover never produced a U.S. version with 120 volt current.
