My Henry burnt out ;(

Hi everyone,

I got my Numatic HVC200 working that was advertised as faulty on ebay.
It worked for a few hours, but then smoke came pouring out of the back and it smelt of burning. So I think it's burnt out.

Any idea's why this has happened?

Yes, my friends single speed Henry did EXACTLY the same thing after being used for a while, it's the capacitor inside. It seems common in older vacs. Either replace or bypass the capacitor and it will hopefully work again

Ah yes, I opened it up and it isn't the motor, it's the suppressor in between the switch and the power socket that's all burnt up.

Any idea's where I can get this?
And why would this happen?

I think I have all the wires etc from the switch to the motor from a single speed Henry, I'll include that with the Henry handle when I get it sent, and you can see if its any use to you

It usually happens if damp has penetrated the capacitor.

The capacitor has all cracked, I might just get rid of it, as it's no longer needed.

Well joe, on this Henry the capacitor is connected to the wires at the switch...
But that's from a 2002 model. Where is it on yours ?

It's in between the switch and the power socket. It's designed to stop the vacuum interfering with TV signals, but now all TV's are digital, so it's no longer needed. I asked James, and he has told me how to remove it.

Oh of course! Yours has a power nozzle socket, mine doesn't. That explains! I keep meaning to get the Henry handle out of the loft, you'll just have to bear with me on that!

I just opened up my good Henry HVC200 (that I bought a while ago) and the suppressor has cracked on that one too, and when I opened it I got a slight burning smell from it, although I can't smell this when it's running/assembled. It's working fine but I'm wondering if I should leave it as it is, because I don't want it to be dangerous
