My Grandparents' Vacuums

As today is my Grandma's 85th birthday, I took the liberty of taking pictures of every vacuum cleaner at my Grandparents' home (but I forgot to do the Montgomery Ward shop vacuum).

In chronological order:

They still have them and use at least one of them.

I see where you get your love for vacuums.  Do you stand to potentially own them one day.  There nice vacs and sentimental ties make them even more valuable. Hopefully you won't own them for many years.  It is pretty cool to see vacuum collectors passing interest and knowledge to our generation.  Thanks for the pics very nice.

I do have my eyes on their Heritage II, so, yes I hope to own at least that one in the future.

I've been fascinated with vacuums from the time my Mom had her 1978 Kirby Classic III. My Dad's parents also had a Classic III, theirs being a year older than my Mom's; theirs is the one I have, which they gave to me in 1998.

That's great I have been fasinated with vacuums.   I hated  our I think 70s  cannister that want good at all.  My grandma had an oreck. 


I'm not a huge fan of classic 3.  I'm not a huge red fan and classic 3 and tradition bags  are lower quality than other bags.  Yours I like yours it looks sweet.  I may get one eventually but bag would be similar to yours.

Previous to the Classic III, my parents had a Hoover Slimline canister in harvest gold.

That's amazing they have such a wide collection of vacuums! Most people their age just stick "with what they know" ie, one vacuum only. They must be in good shape to push those big old Kirbys around that's for sure.

My great grandmother who lived to be 100 only switched vacuums when the motor literally blew up. She never believed anything couldn't be fixed but seeing her loyal vacuum go up in a cloud of smoke is when she knew it would be easier to just upgrade to another model than to endlessly fix a problem child.

I do like the Heritage II also. It has a nice soft whirring sound like a sewing machine and not the deafening roar like G-series Kirbys (not that that is a bad thing, just saying.)

When I was younger (late 90s) my great grandmother had an Electrolux Golden Jubilee, while at the same time at my house where I lived my mother had a toweringly tall "scary" Eureka The Boss World Vac. You can figure out which vac I took a liking to. Always had a thing for Electroluxes since then but i like Kirby too. The Electroluxes all seem to have a unique smell to the exhaust as well, or is that just me? haha

That's great. Your grandparents had good taste in vacuums. The ones that suck and stick to the carpet - older eurekas and kirby's have always done it. And you can't go wrong with an older Rainbow. Valuable to have if you have a liquid spill.
