My First Penncrest

Thought I’d share a few pictures of my Penncrest A104 that I picked up this weekend. I really like the color and logo. I did a little clean up on it too. A few before photos at the end. Looks like it is missing the rubber covers that go on the handle release and height adjustment, but maybe this model didn’t come with them. I’m guessing it is a late 60s model as it looks very similar to my convertible, but not totally sure. If anyone has more info on this model, I greatly appreciate you sharing.

Also the tube that the bag attaches too had a rubber sheath that rolled over the end of the bag to secure it, but it has deteriorated. See photos. For now I put some zip ties on it but would prefer a better solution or more appropriate. I’ve seen others that utilize a “spring” ring that slides over the bag and “locks” into a groove. Like a eureka F&G The plastic chute however does not have a groove for a spring to lock into. Open to any recommendations.

I just use a garter spring such as off a Eureka f&g upright. There is a catch at the very bottom of the fill tube.

And that yellow Convertible with cord winder is nothing to sneeze at either!

Thanks 2011hoover700, I did see a catch at the bottom of the tube, but thought it looked rather small for a garter spring, but will give it a try!

Thanks JustJuneque! I do enjoy my yellow convertible too, although the retractable cord makes it a bit cumbersome to use and I’m worried about breaking the cord stop at the top of the handle so it doesn’t get too much use. Both great looking machines!

Nice score on the Penncrest Model A-104! I have the similarly-featured and labeled brown & beige-colored Model A-131.

I was able to find your "green and off-white" one In Penney's catalogs 1964, 1965, & 1966 (1967 & 1968 weren't posted, and it was not featured in the 1963 or 1969 editions). Anyway, you have an idea of when it was manufactured.

I'm

Pretty sure a eureka/sanitaire or even royal. The royal goes up and takes a hepa bag top fill.
Eureka/ sanitaire has a sT fill tube top fill.
The third alternative is the round tube attach a kirby fill tube and type f adaptor and you'd have a kirby hepa system.
I don't know if there's an option for hoovers converting to top fill from m f&G.
I'd recommend it highly though because it will save your vacuum bag and machine from excess dust.
