My Electrolux 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee

This Electrolux had hardly been used !

The canister was so perfect it was almost as new except for the wheels and two gray smudges that left no scratch. The bag chamber had no film or odor. And when I opened the exhaust door it was as new. Not even a rust speckle anywhere. Even the gold and silver lettering was as new. Unbelievable.

Beautemous!

That is a gorgeous Lux! Having used one of those many times, I can tell you you'll be very happy with its performance.

Not many of them are in that condition, either - you did very well. It's nice to hear about a purchase that arrived in good condition, properly packed without shipping damage.

Did it come with a PN and tools? The correct PN for that one is the PN-2 with the Golden Jubilee sticker on it. Tools should be off-white. I can see you got a modern vinyl hose with it. Frankly, I think that's better for actual use than an original hose, which would leak by now, and was never as flexible as the vinyl ones.

Nice machine. NICE.

P.S.: Do your kitties like being vacuumed? My Tony LOOOOOOVES getting vacuumed with my 1205.

It was missing the power nozzle. Three attempts to find one.

The first PN2 I found looked like it was used to vacuum a gravel driveway. Worst PN2 I have ever seen :

Recommended Lubricant:

Elbow grease!

My PN-4, bought with my 1974 Model L, was in worse shape than that. Careful disassembly, cleaning, buffing (by hand - whew!) and reassembly with a new brushroll made it very nice indeed.

Even though the result of reconditioning that one might not put it into the same pristine condition as the vac, you'd have a usable PN that would do until you find a better one.

P.S.: The buffing was done with Brillo first, to remove the rough oxidation and start polishing. Then came Nevr-Dull, to begin bringing up a luster. Last was Brasso, for a good shine. Not the same as machine buffing, but it made a helluva difference on a very distressed PN housing.

That IS Weird!

Usually, PN-2s and PN-4s are excellent candidates for rebuilding, because their metal housings can be buffed, and their plastic parts are of really high quality. I dunno what happened there.

BTW, when I put a Lux PN back together, I always lubricate the shaft of those roller wheels with silicone. Silicone doesn't attract dirt, and it makes a big difference in how quiet the PN is in use. A lot of Lux PNs I've had started out with a bad, screechy squeak every time the PN was moved back and forth on the carpet; seems to be inherent in the design unless lubed.

Can You....

....Use them both to make one good one?

I know that looking at photos isn't like seeing the actual item, but neither of those look all THAT bad to me. I meant it when I said my most recent PN-4 acquisition was horrible - it was the filthiest PN I have EVER seen, bar none. And the housing, originally polished bright as chrome, looked like charcoal grey suede.

She's way better now!

If You....

Decide not to fool with those PN-2s, I could use a good motor for one I have waiting for restoration....

Oh, Okay!

You had another one all along - and with the correct sticker. Good for you! That one looks really decent. You should be able to get that one into good enough shape to be worthy of the Golden Jubilee, without too much sweat.

PN2 motor cleaned and screwed back togethter.

This was fun when I pulled it apart before taking off the c clamp and the brushes popped out. Next time :)

Restored PN2 parts.

Wish I could have found a breakdown like this a couple years ago. This is the most original PN2 I have ever seen. Maybe this will help somebody in the future. :)

Hi danemodsandy :)

I have the aftermarket motor in the above photo that I will give you if you want it. The other PN motor was rusted and destroyed.

50th Anniversary PN2 restored top:

I like the original motor back shield/cover. Cleaned the motor and motor back cover with Clorox wipe liquid and swabs. It does a great job and no odor after. Just don't over wet the swabs.
