I have never made it a secret that the Electrolux XXX (also known as a model 30) is my all-time favorite vacuum cleaner. Something about the simple, yet modern look of these machines just gets me where I live. Thankfully they made millions of them so there's no shortage of them which has allowed me to really gather up a few of them for my collection (175+ and counting!). Anyway, naturally when I acquire them, on occasion I end up with a "dud" unit that doesn't run good, at all, or shoots fire from them! These machines allow me to get a little creative and break away from the standard look of them! I had one such machine in my workshop just sitting around collecting dust due to a bad motor, so I decided to give it a make-over thus giving it a new lease on life. It sports a new motor, which I know doesn't have that old lux sound, but you can't win em all! It has a new paint job, and an unique top covering. So without further ado, here's my "creation!" I still have a few things I'd like to tweak on it, but here's the general idea of it! Hope you enjoy.

I love it!

The gold leaf pattern really works. It brings out the vintage, mid-century flavor of the thing. How did you do that? Is it a decal wrap? a stencil? I could also see doing one with a clean, geometric pattern that would accentuate the art deco roots of its design.

Thank you all!

I was really proud of how it turned out in the end. At first when I began stripping it down and painting the body, I started having second thoughts about the finished product. At that point thoughiI figured I was too far into it to to quit now and went ahead and finished it. The old fabric top was cracking and ripping, so I took it off and actually that top you see is a piece of wallpaper that I fashioned from the original pattern! I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to hold it down and its amazing stuff! My biggest challenge was getting the new motor to fit in the cavity and ensure a good seal so I wouldn't lose suction. I ended up using automotive gasket material and I fashioned my own motor mounts to hold it down! Thank you all for the comments about it, I love doing things like this, just wish I had more time to get REALLY creative with them!
