He told me, 'Woe, you really take good care of your stuff". We were raised to, AND, it was very HARD to pay for them.....yrs ago. My late mom went to Ireland. When she came home, she saw these ...almost fainted. "What happened?" she asked. "A LOT", I replied.

I've also

been guilty of waxing my washer and dryer.
Then I got step children, who used the tops to apply stain pre treat to their garments, be careless with detergent, bleach, etc. Even as I placed worn towels on top of them.
One tires of preaching, and cleaning up after them. The more you do, the less they care. You can't watch them 24/7 unless you can stay home.
They had more pressing responsibilities like studying, playing video games, etc.
Heck, I was glad they at least washed their own clothes.
Now our daughter has her own family, and washer, and has discovered she needs to keep it clean, or mold and guck collect in and around the dispensers.

I usually wash them with Windex.

My mom would use Ivory soap. I understand that they made a  polish for them, which I never bought.

Hey Guys

You are not the only one who waxes their appliances. When I was a kid my mom had the old Maytags that had all the chrome around the console and the wht glass with gray stripes in them. I was always cleaning them up and making then shine like new even though they were far from it. I use to use Jubilee Creme on them and it always smelled so nice. She would always find me and say "you were cleaning the washer & dryer again weren't you, I can always tell" Thank You!
I have always been one to take really good care of all my things I have owned and it pays off in the long run because it seems to last that much longer. Hell even with all the vintage kitchen appliances I by on ebay the first thing I do is give it a good bath and then clean all the plastic handles and know and such with... get this Silver Polish or I will use plastic polish for cars. It is just a mild enuf abrasive that it cleans and does not scratch the finish. It works GREAT on stainless steel too.
John if I had the room for Maytags like yours I would but I have to have stacked units. I have a Maytag RR dishwasher that I bought used. I hunted Craigslist for yrs till I found the one I wanted. Its the TOL belt drive with push buttons. I had been trying to but another one on Craigslist and the woman would never call me back so I bought this one. Long story short she couldn't sell hers and she finally dropped the price to free so I have a spare for parts now. YESSSS! LOL I love the dam thing, it washes mad crazy clean.... loud but I don't care.
