Hey guys, this thread from Fred begins:

"<a name="start_19687.219459">Make me an offer, I'll take the best one.  Please do not start a bargaining discourse on this thread.  If you have any questions about the machines please ask.  Otherwise, if you are interested, please email me at </a>[email protected]. "

Couldn't be clear-er.

If you are interested in a machine then EMAIL FRED FIRST.

Make him an offer. If it is too lowball he will let you know and you can up it in $10 increments. That's how it works.

It is not good form to expect any seller to contact you first.

It follows that posted statements like "Email me and tell me how much you want for it" is equally unlikely to get a response.

Dave

Thanks Dave

A lot of activity right now and I am having trouble keeping it straight between the website, Vacuumland messaging and email.  Email me please, it's easier for me to track.  I decided to organize the machines I am going to keep in one finished room in the basement.  My initial reaction was to empty the whole finished part out, but a well-organized display of vintage vacuums couldn't hurt.  This process is going to be the death of me.

Terry's passing gave me pause for thought.  I don't want to leave this task for someone else to deal with.  I collected helter-skelter and now have too much stuff.  Glad to see some of the machines go to good homes and to people who appreciate them.  Keep the offers coming.

I'll post the finished product of my core collection when I am finished organizing it.  YIKES!  Back to work.

Well

I decided to move the final collection back into the finished part of the basement.  It will give the house character when it is shown (I hope.)  The will remember the house with the vacuums.  The back part of the basement looked too much like a disaster and I needed to separate the machines that I am keeping from those that are going.  Plus I need to see how many I can fit into one room which is now my self-imposed limit.  This was a good exercise to go through everything and sort it out.  Still have a lot of hoses and parts I need to go through.

I'll probably be bringing the leftover parts, hoses and machines to the convention to give away.

Shot one of the new vacuum room.

Shot Two

I am going to have to figure out how to store the wands, attachments and hoses so that I can get at them easily.  This exercise of thinning the herd has had me routing through boxes and piles of hoses to find the right parts.  Ugh!

Fred, I know you have a lot to move but I wouldn't put out a lot of vacs or any of them on display, to potential buyers it seems too "personalized" and doesn't give them the canvas to see what they could do with the space, it's actually on my calendar that I get from my buyer's agent. I have never seen that brandywine Eureka before, I thought that was a Vactronic at first

Personally,

I agree with Fred and I do think the vacuums add character. People who have never had the opportunity to see a vintage vacuum cleaner collection now can. It may spark some interest in our club and open the door for some potential buyers to ask questions pertaining to vacuum collecting. Most people probably don’t know that there are people who collect vacuums.

Kenny,

You're right about the rarity of vacuum collections.

It is true, too, about "de-personalizing" a home. Family photos, stuffed hunted animas, guns, etc  are usually removed.  They USED to say, an empty house was a good idea.  Then, seeing how a bed, baby grand piano, roll top desk, etc  fit in a home are good as well. Some buyers try to imagine a Christmas tree in the house, too. In general, Fred,  you've done everything right.  A fresh, non-trendy or dated  paint job,  no clutter, immaculate home is the impression you want, and, you've made. We were told it should look and smell good.  No candles, etc.  but a nice clean smell. We were told , years ago, to have the house smell like cookies.  So, one day, I made cookies.  The place smelled great.  Viewers were hungry! Some put fresh flowers on the table.  Then,  somebody could be allergic.  You just can't win.

I "prepped" my aunt's house in Ireland, when I was over there for  a wedding.  She sold her home just after I left for the States.Fred knows, and those REALTORS know that the house will move.. to the right buyer.

I'd personally get a kick out of seeing a vac collection.  But,  it's true,  it will be remebered.  Imagine the new owners saying, "There used to be cleaners in this room, as well as a switchboard". Mine had a Wurlitzer jukebox and a suiy of armour until  just recently.  Believe me,  people 'talked about it'.

John, yes a properly "staged" home is what helps the most in the selling process, and it is a nice gesture to have some baked goods at an open house.

Seeing a bunch of old sweepers on display would leave an imprint on a buyer's mind but it still gives that personalization hurdle that the seller is not antsy for an offer, just my two cents.

john i can just see you in your century 21 gold jacket

as attractive as your designated display area is..so clean organized and uncluttered withoutt storage containers and having them strewn throughout the house in inappropriate places.....fred you do need to get those vacs out of the picture.....people dont understand nor appreciate collecting vacs and may judge you and your home unjustly....i know the flack i have taken for having my collection right when you walk in my showroom and had to hear those wicked and snide remarks like i was some kind of cracked pot for having them....you have a goal to accomplish no matter what needs to be done to do it....you need to get out and this economy is no help.....baking cookies is so lame...have a roast beef in the oven and really get them excited....the smell of pine sol or lysol never sold a house fred....these home buyers think everything is a hgtv episode of house hunters.....they do not want to even paint.....they want a page out of house beautiful as soon as they hit the door......

Fred

Your home is beautiful but being a Realtor and an avid vacuum collector I would suggest not having them on display or in your home . It is a distraction and most people will not understand and it may chase away potential buyers .

Depersonalize is what I tell every seller that includes removing pictures and use aromatherapy such as Yankee candle plug ins I find help sell many homes as they have many scents pick one for the season say spring scents because its around the corner . Kitchen you could use baking ones such as cake or cookies .

The market has picked up and it will just take that one buyer to appreciate and have to buy your home just like you did many years ago . Hang tight your sale is just around the corner and new memories are to be made very soon . Sometimes it`s hard to tell your seller certain things if you know them or you feel you may hurt their feelings and it can be better to hear it from someone who has nothing to gain from the sale .

But, Fred,

I'm sure YOUR professional realty group has gone over everything. Afterall,  it's already listed.   And, I never wore a mustard yellow jacket.

And, just today,  I discovered a huge 'plastic container' of HOOVER apparatus.(apparati).  Attachments,  booklets, etc  .  A nice surprise.  So,  let's never underestimate the plastic box.

i think a mustard colored jacket would look so sharp

with your black seminary out fit.....could you imagine a priest who sells real estate....sounds like a sit com waiting to happen

Enough of this thinly veiled inuendo, please.

Early February's public squabble was embarrassing enough but to slyly resurrect it is unconscionable.

John Long, dear friend, please stop responding to guardsman's transparent prickling. We out here can easily read between his lines and you're a better man than this. It's not coming across as good natured humour but rather as forced diplomacy.

Fred, I would pay scant attention to the advice of an equally sour real estate mogul baiting from New Jersey; it is hardly in the same league or market as that around Chicago.

You have repainted, redecorated and staged your house magnificently; a little memorable personality in the finished basement room does not show negatively...except for those shallow 'buyers' who just want to kick tires and compare, who never had any intention of putting in a offer anyway. Any thinking person that tours Tarantula Arms will see right past the gleaming museum-grade vacuums to the potential of that room. Chin up, stay organized and carry on as you see fit.

Dave

I

deleated my post because I am so tired of nasty mean people I posted out of kindness nothing more I wish you all the best Fred .

I love how some people can judge someone they have never met

I never say what I sell on here because its nobodys business but FYI  NJ has many Million dollar plus beachfront properties that I have listed and sold I never really looked into Chicagos Realestate so I have no idea about prices but I do know how to list and sell homes .

It  is comments like this that have made me change my mind about donating a sum of money to this club as I was advised by my accountant to find another charity, club or some type of fourm that I belong to .

Once again Fred I wish you all the best and I hope you get an awsome price for the home you love so much .

dave my advise to fred is true ....vacs and clutter can kil

the advise i gave to fred is from my own experience with people and vacuum collections..especially in my own showroom.......what happened earlier in the month has been resolved....john rectified the situation as i had asked ...and it has passed.....i have always communicated with john that way and he knows i mean nothing by it.......thats how we talk if we were visiting.....friends have arguments and disagreements but they pass.....john would make a wonderful real estate agent as well as a priest or anything else he chooses to do.....because thats who he is......he is our own paul lynde and his material is golden as golden as a century 21 jacket....johns life is a very interesting journey and one i hope he shares with all of us as i have had the oppertunity to have......he knows i only wish him the best......there is no issue or drama.....

dave one more thing concerning kirby lovin dan

dan frisco is one of new jerseys top real estate agents who closes some pretty huge real estate deals on a large scale....fred would and should value his advice.....these men live large and should not be punished by those who may not have what they have.....and should listen to those with a proven track record and your comments to dan were beyond insulting.....dan is not sour he is successful and should be owed the same respect.....even our own fred admires him from what i am reading.....when dan talks people listen from aerus vacs to mansions to office buildings....one could only benefit from knowing him ....i am proud to call him my friend......it seems in sharing his passion for vacuums some members resent what he has .....if they work hard enough and put the time in they can have the same things as well.....that what it is to be an american..i do not think crossing the boarder is any different

dan you gave sound advice to fred

in this market a room color can be a deal breaker......i hope you continue to post and share with us despite what has been said.....i think someone need to vist the farm.....on his next road trip....
