They just seem to fall out of the sky here. This morning friends of ours stopped by to drop off an orange model 34 Convertible, a 1964 era Hoover hairdryer, and a Concept One self propelled. I was at an estate sale and bought a ragged model 704 with a very strange bag on it (a whole $1 bought it) and a very early example of the Hoover Dustette that was completely original down to the cord. Enjoy!

Im thinking.......

Hey Tom

Im guessing thats a U4003 bag on the 704?

Is the Concept as nice as it looks??

Seamus

P.S is the Dustette UK or US made?

Hairdryer

Heya Tom-

Cool finds..

Could you take a few more detailed pics of that hairdryer? I have one of the later ones with the manicure kit (need all of the tiny attachments for that), but haven't seen that kind. Was it made in house or outsourced?

Hair Dryer

The hair dryer is the same as one my mom used to have only it was blue and the brand was Lady Shick. Think they might've been made by the same company, and who maybe?

Wow...

Tom, great finds. I think a trip to North Canton may be in order. You're going to need a warehouse soon to store your collection.

Very Good Tom.........

I picked up a 704 today too. Not the original bag, but the rest is decent. In fact the machine is better than the 704 I already have. I might switch out the bags and keep the one I got today. Also a green Swiveltop GE came my way.

BTW, the Concept does look pretty nice.

Great Finds, Tom

I especially love when they come to me. Jeff Schoff and I had a great day in Mansfield today. We didn't hit any yard
sales or make any great finds other then a fair collection
he knew of at an office equipment store in Galion. Then he
actually drove me around the outside of the old westinghouse
plants, closed since 1999? Am I correct Jeff? Then a great
achives of Westhinghouse products and the 1930's Robat that
westinghouse developed in the 30's. The curator was there
and great converstion on Westinghouse history.
Conney dogs for lunch and back to Jeff's place to ck out each
of his 28 cleaners in his collection. What a fun day and
great weather to travel from Columbus and back again.
If any of you get near Columbus or Mansfield let Jeff know
your coming. It's second only to Tom's Tours of Canton and
north!! LOL!!!

Seamus...

Yes, the bag on the 704 is very similar to the U4003 in pattern. This one has a hard plastic cover where the spring attaches.

The Dustette is a very early 1930 model without the bumper and is made here. I am not sure when they transferred production to the UK.

Yes, the Concept is MINT, MINT, MINT!!!!! But no headlight!!!

Jeff...

The 34 has the later U4047 tangerine bag and yes, it was FULL. In fact I have never seen a C bag this full of dirt. It was a C bag shaped "brick" and the spring was stretched under all of that weight. It was grit so this Convertible really did beat as is sweeps as it cleans. It also had the chrome "Guardsman" agitator in it for some reason.

Fred...

This hairdryer was outsourced by Schick Company. It is a 1964 model and was their first such product. The next model was shaped more like a beehive. This one does not have a manicure set and is only a hairdryer. It works perfectly!

Rick...

I would say yes that the same company made both machines. Hoover's machine only came in this light pinky brown color...I am not sure of the name of it???

Mike...

Yes, make a trip to North Canton anytime you want. I am hoping to find good homes for a lot of this stuff. While I can find it, I am picking it up to save it from the landfill.

Joe...

What a coincidence that we both picked up 704's today. This one is beat. The motor runs and the agitator are good. The paint, cord, and handle release are toast! It was a "Spider Condo". There were many happy creatures living in it. It is getting a complete disassembly. It will never be mint, but I can make it work again even with the funky U4003 bag.

Great finds, Tom!

Seems like there's always an abundance of vacuums to be found in your area.
Yes, Norm and I had a great time today! I had been to this museum a few times before, but was thrilled to see that they had added quite a bit to the Westinghouse exhibit.
I checked my Westinghouse/WCI book at home and the actual closing of the plant was in 1990. Ranges were last produced there in 1983, dryer production ended in 1988, and washers were produced right up to the closing of the plant in 1990.
The office equipment store where we looked at the vacuum collection was in Ontario, across the road from the GM plant. As the owner of the store wasn't in, we didn't get to run any of the vacs (they had a Bison there that I would have liked to check out), but we did enjoy looking at his collection. Tom, you'll be happy to know that several of them were Hoovers, including a 102, 25, 60, 62, Lark, and a Pixie!! And while we were there, I did find a few parts for my recently acquired 512 Kirby, including a suction coupler, upholstery nozzle, short handle, and shoulder strap, and paid only a dollar for the works!
We lunched at the Coney Island in downtown Mansfield (told you they were the best Coneys in the world, didn't I, Norm!!), then back to my house for visiting & vacuuming, and Norm found out firsthand what I meant about not having any single place in the house where I could put all of them (even though I only have 28!). And as always, the time went by only too fast, hope we can do it again sometime!
Jeff
