Montgomery Ward by Eureka SP8804

Does anyone know anything about these units? This is my first forray in to Sanitaire-ish territory, the machine is in great shape and perfect mechanical order aside from the belt. I have absolutely no clue about it other than what bag it takes and it's supposedly "really uncommon" according to a fellow collector. Help?

The serial number says this cleaner was made the 49th week of calendar year 1988, which puts this at being in December 1988.

This style of motor hood by Eureka is not very common. It seems it was often used for low end budget plastic uprights branded with department store names (JC Penney, Wards, Eaton Viking and Beaumark in Canada). The well-known roundish motor hood profile from the 1960's and 1970's seems to have been retired by the late 1980's, and so this is what came out for Eureka's budget, plastic, fan-first, bag-in-the-back uprights in the Eureka Bravo era.

eurekaprince, do you know what kind of brushroll this unit would usw?

Hi Lawrence,

This probably would have had the regular wooden Disturbulator brushroll that all budget Eurekas had in the 1980's: basically a gold-coloured or black-colored wooden dowel with non-replaceable black bristle strips and red plastic beater bars. I'll see if I can find picture for you.

Here's a picture Lawrence. Just check that the ends of this brushroll match the molded slots on the ends of the brush roll cavity in your machine. It should be easy to send any supplier a photo of these ends to make sure you get a compatible brush roll.
