Once when I was much younger I recall seeing a Hoover Convertible in a thrift store. It was white and had an orange hood, the bag was white and vinyl. The odd thing was soon after I remember seeing what I am pretty sure was the same vacuum in the trash in front of a house in my neighborhood. My parents let me pick it up. I remember my mom saying that it probably still worked, but I was afraid to plug it in. Later I put it back in the trash. If I recall my parents would let me pick up stuff from the trash as long as I threw it away when I was done playing with it.

Anyhow, does anyone know what model this could have been? I am pretty sure it had a plastic base, so I am guessing 1980s. At the time I thought it was much older.

Also, another story. My mom cleaned a building once a week for extra money. There was a Kirby there that I was afraid to use, and a tan Hoover Convertible. My mom never used it but I did use the Convertible sometimes and I remember the rumble that it made.

The Convertible you describe sounds like model U4371, which was styled in Deep Persimmon and Oyster White (Hoover's official color names.)

Below is the front of the brochure/spec sheet for that model.
