Mini/Mega Meet in Pittston!!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

holy wow! I didn't think that preparing for tomorrow would be so much work!!! I mowed lawn, changed the oil in the truck, fixed the radio in the truck (2 back speakers were blown), cleaned and vacuumed the truck and because I live in NY and they use lots and lots of salt in the winter I decided to paint the rust spots and do some undercoating. now on to fixing a washer and then loading the truck with machines for tomorrows mini/mega meet!

I too have loaded up the truck for the extravaganza

The objets d'Hoover have been safely packed into the back of the Explorer. Oh, what fun we shall have!

I tried to create a little "theme" for this visit. A Hoover product from every decade from the 1940s through the 1990s.

1940s: Model 61 with attachments

1950s: Model 62

1960s: Model 34 Special

1970s: Dial a Matic whose model number escapes me

1980s: Concept Two Electronic

1990s: Concept One U3315 and Legacy whose model number also escapes me

Well,

The mega meet is well underway. Nine are in attendance. Mark and J.T. had a birthday party to attend, and MAY arrive later. WE made a nice trip to Scranton. WE stopped at Vac Way.Time constraints prohibited us from seeing the 300 'vintage ' vacuums located in a special room. Mr. Partyka promised me we can see them next time. Then, we moved on to The Radisson Hotel, the FORMER Lackawanna Station. It is a magnificent piece of art. Then, a nice dinner followed. The menu was:
Mascarpone dates with crushed pistachios, Waldorf salad, baked baby sea scallops wrapped in bacon, lobster bisque, chicken cordon bleu, twice baked potatoes. Dessert was cherry walnut cake.
Photos will be posted soon. LOTS and LOTS of machines were humming. Thankfully, all of the non-HOOVER items were being used while I was in the kitchen. I'm glad they got the chance to get that all out of their systems. As usual, a fun time is being had by all. It was a chance for friends to return. Some met for the first time. More followups soon.

It looks like everyone had a terrific time!

<span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva;">And, I'm really looking forward to our "micro-meet" on June 2nd ... should be a LOT of fun!  :)  I'm bringing with me my two British Turbopower I's (the U2194 and the U2332) as well as my Junior Deluxe and Junior Dirtsearcher and -- as a special request by Durango159 -- my Celebrity II Elite.  Also making an appearance will be my Convertible Model 70 -- the machine that's as old as I am!</span>

The mini/mega meet was...

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">As always, a wonderful time.  Such a great way to spend the weekend!  It was SIMPLY FANTASTIC!</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;"> </span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">After a 5 hour drive from Buffalo, we arrived at John's lovely home, AKA the HOOVER Hilton.  Ammenities are a joy.  We found ourselves napping on only the finest of linens............</span>

But- before the fun could begin.......

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Matt made sure that the "facilities" were spotless.  Not a speck of dust remained after he finished with John's Constellation.........</span>

papasvacs++4-29-2013-06-28-17.jpg

Ready, set, go...............

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Let the fun begin.</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;"> </span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Rob and Joel sit amid the vast array of cleaners that arrived.   Now - does that not look like fun?</span>

There were eve some "foreign objects" present...

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Rob brought a Eureka and I brought me newest, a Compact C-9 with power nozzle.</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Of course, these were kept secret from John who was elsewhere at the time.  Just wait 'til he finds out!</span>

Rob, our resident canister expert........

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Pronounced the Compact "adequate".   High praise indeed!  Rob "knows his stuff" when it comes to canisters with a power nozzle.</span>

papasvacs++4-29-2013-06-41-3.jpg

All this happened..............

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">While our host was in the kitchen.  Lots and lots of Pittston Hospital Ice Tea was made that day.  John also made the yummiest cake........  cherry nut cake.</span>

papasvacs++4-29-2013-06-44-44.jpg

Uh Oh...............

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">John found the "invaders".  Apparently, he did not care for Rob's Eureka..............</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">But, does John bash?    Maybe just a little.............</span>

papasvacs++4-29-2013-06-48-0.jpg

Matt.......

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">defends the honor of the household.  He grabbed a HOOVER, and went into action.</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Rob, your smile will soon disappear if Matt's aim is good!</span>

papasvacs++4-29-2013-06-51-7.jpg

Finally............

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Rob, suitably chastened, comes to his senses, regains sanity and gets on to happy HOOVERing.........</span>

There developed a theme for the day................

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">"Are Zippy's wheels really round"?     It seems that his Decade 80 wheels were not........</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Yes, I know this is not the Decade 80.  By now it had limped over to a corner.  Checks were being made of other Convertibles.  The rest seemed fine.  But still Zippy worried!</span>
