Since I left a bit early this morning to get home to get some work done, I thought I would start the photo thread for the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club 2013 convention in Milwaukee. As usual it was a wonderful and fun event with many familiar faces and many new ones. I was not able to get up to the event until Friday due to work commitments so my photos are somewhat limited. I missed the first day and a trip to Duane Taylor's home and his vacuum shop in Mequon. I understand it was wonderful and over 40 vacuums were given away along with untold parts. Please everyone who attended, post photos for everyone to enjoy. If you are not comfortable with that, email them to me at [email protected] and I will doll the pictures up in Photoshop and post them for you.

My first photos are fun. A documentary film crew came in from New York to prepare a documentary on the VCCC convention. They were quite persistent in getting shots of everything including Tania's Tonkinese cat Buddy who loves to get vacuumed.

On Saturday morning when everyone was at the general membership meeting, I joined Tania at her home to prepare for a visit from the club for lunch and a tour of her fabulous collection. While setting up the film crew came by and wanted Tania to model the Filter Queen hair dryer for them. Just putting it on was not enough. It had to be staged. She had to get a robe and slippers and model the machine on her back porch. Now I can understand the robe and slippers, but what self-respecting 60's housewife would dry her hair with a Filter Queen on the back porch. Oh well that's what they wanted so that is what they got. Here is shot of Tania getting ready for the film shoot. She looks a bit aggravated since she had to get ready to entertain 50 guests in an hour.

Tania

On set and getting hair and makeup ready. She didn't have a trailer to get ready so her reflection in the back door would have to do. Of course, she keeps an immaculate house so she could see her reflection in the door glass.

Well

On to the banquet and awards Saturday night. Imagine my surprise and delight to win a brand new Riccar Vibrance Premium Plus vacuum in one of the many raffles. Was shocked to get it but am absolutely thrilled with it. In the box at home.

I can't wait to see and hear more about this convention! I had no idea a film crew came. Which network will the documentary air on? Will the VCCC ever hold a convention on the west coast, say in Southern California, Las Vagas, or Phoenix?

Thank's Fred.

These pictures are fantastic! I'm so sorry I couldn't be there, but getting that club paperwork had to take priority!

I have very fond memories of conventions past. What a change from what we once had. The club has grown from a few vacuum cleaner enthusiasts to a full fledged club of international proportions.

I can't wait to hear what went on, and the growth of the club.

Tania, Duane, and Charlie,

Thank you!

From the few pictures I've seen this looks like it was a great convention. I can't wait to learn the details.

Thanks again.

Alex Taber.

Well, WE got home at 4 in the morning!!!!!!!!

Guess who drove back with us? None other than our own John Lucia! He'll be here until
Thursday.
I'll post some pics later.
It was fantastic to see everyone again. We also met some 'newbies'. Tania's home, luncheon, collection were stellar, (NO surprise there).
Duane's shop, home and luncheon were as well. We all were given beautiful machines, and some were for sale as well. His shop (one of three, I'm told) was huge. WE even got a surprise return visit from Mr. John Zeigenhagen. (spelling)? It was great to see him after so long of an absence. The raffle was fun. There were 2 vacuums there which belonged to the late GREAT Terry Lattz. Joe Kassock won a pink Convertible. Our beloved Barb and Sally were there too. More to follow soon. A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!!!!!!!

convention

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say thank you to all for your kindness at my first convention.

For some personal reasons, I did not come down for the farewell breakfast. But, I just want to say if you are ever in Green Bay, please give me a call or send an email. I will put them in my profile. I doubt if I will ever be able to come to another convention, but I plan to stay a member, and stay in touch.

My best to all,

John Chandler Chan55

Ok, Some more photos.

John Lucia and I are sitting in one of my living rooms, sipping an ice cold beverage, while the dryer is finishing our laundry. WE thought it would be nice to share some convention memories.
It wasn't a very fancy, luxury hotel, but it served us well. The meals at the hotel nourished our bodies well. The friendships, learning, sharing, etc, nourished our souls. It was well worth our 14+ hour drive.

Here's a peek at one of our cleaning contests. Joe Kassock's new HOOVER Wind tunnel Air 2 BEAT , that's right, beat a DYSON.
