I bought a new direct connect hose and power nozzle for a Miele White Pearl. I need to get a direct connect wand to complete the function. The wand is $115.00 and complaints abound on the net of failure of electrical connections and clogging on the wire which runs through the inside of the wand from hose to power nozzle. Am I making a mistake to spend the additional money on the direct connect wand or should I jury rig an extension cord to run outside and complete the connection. A family member used this cleaner for a while and was going to throw it away because they "lost" the attachments and hose. The cleaner and its on board tools are near perfect so the investment seemed reasonable but I'm choking on the expense and reliability of the direct connect wand.

Your Input

Has anyone had a negative experience with the latest incarnation of Miele canister vacuums and direct connect technology to power the carpet nozzle? I'll be in the city tomorrow and can pick one up.

I have never had an issue with the direct-connect wand itself on my 2004 Miele Red Velvet's SET210 wand. But what I have had an issue with is the direct-connect powerhead neck, & the wiring inside it, on my SEB236 powerhead. It broke down TWO TIMES within a short timespan & I finally had to jury-rig it to make it work permanently.

Another member on here, Chad Schieberl, has told me on Facebook during our chats that the wires come loose from the bayonets that go into the receptacle on the lower end of the wand, which is what causes the problem. To correct it, he has had to solder the bayonets onto the wire. If you obtain a new wand & powerhead, I would insist the new dealer solder the wires in the direct-connect powerhead neck as part of the sale, & that he not charge you an additional labor charge for it. And if he refuses to do it, walk away from the sale until you find a dealer that WILL do it.
