Miele U1 - Red

That’s what my Dad uses. If it can survive his wife, and it has so far, then it’s definitely a good vacuum. I’ve used it and it does clean well. Runs quietly just like the Miele canisters do.

I have one and like it a lot. The hose is convenient. The bag is great with no loss of air flow even when it is nearly packed. Make sure to pick up #10 and #20 torx drivers to unscrew the metal roller cover in case there is blockage. My wife won't use it, says its too heavy. It can be a bit of a workout depending how plush your carpeting is.
Pros/Cons vs. Sebo Felix:
U1 has better attachments
U1 hose stretches longer
U1 easier to turn off rollers when moving onto hard floors
U1 has a headlight
U1 dust bag functions better all the way to full
Felix is lighter, making it easier to maneuver
Felix brush roll helps pull the vacuum making it less exercise to vacuum
Felix seems less cloggable
Felix is likely more serviceable at home (ie, like replacing brush roll)

In summary, as long as you are ok with a bit if a workout if doing a lot of vacuuming and are not looking for a 1 finger operation, the U1 gets the job done.

Parts are hard to find.

They are pretty east to take apart to clean - I would suggest leaving the rear wheels attached and you do not need to remove them to remove motor cover and take note of the position of the tilt so when you put cover back on the gears align in same position.

I bought 4 and none of them had the rear wheels positioned in the same spot.

If anyone has one that's never been taken apart, I would love to see a pic of where the rear wheels are supposed to be align with regards to the couple lines on the lower housing motor cover. See arrows in pics - where are your wheels?

I always thought that Miele uprights were more complicated and clunky than they need to be. I would go for a SEBO Felix. I've used the Windsor Axcess version, and I think it's a nifty little upright.

I really like this for an upright.( I prefer canisters)
Used one as my daily driver for years when I had an apartment.



@chicagomike Parts are easy to find I'm not sure what you are talking about Miele has a great supply chain in the US and worldwide.

Also in the past thread where we discussed your machine needing a motor. There are two videos that show you how to time those wheels.

watch your video on the wheels - In my opinion, nothing is seen on camera and is of zero help with regard to the wheels. It really looked like you did not understand yourself with regards to the wheels especially when you say sometimes you get it on first try, you say something is not smooth and the viewer cant see what was not smooth, etc. Marking the rear wheel gears and not understanding the position of the pivot handle gears doesnt make sense to me. I gotta believe the pivot handle gears and wheel gears should be in a certain position every time/mate together in a certain and it should work every time - I cannot imagine the factory doing a trail and error putting every rear wheel assembly together. Not being rude so don't take my reply wrong and if you make a video on it, maybe show how everything needs to be positioned every time. And show where the wheels should be positioned in final upright position so someone can tell if theres is right or wrong.

I'll start a different thread as I should not of asked my question here and hijacked the initial post question

Way over-priced

...in my opinion and way over-engineered! More clumsy than a Kirby and just as heavy if not heavier. Miele has a big ass when it comes time for the price of their parts. Overall, I am not impressed with my S7210. Glad I never purchased it new!

I have one of those Miele uprights and I will take ANY of my Kirbys over it anytime.Also my Sebo uprights.Miele ought to forget uprights and just stay with canisters.

I love mine

Out of all the vacuums I have, if I was forced to go down to just one vacuum, it would be this one. Powerful, quiet, effective on any type of carpet, tools and hose attached, brush-roll off/on switch at the handle. Mine even has automatic motor control, which is a little gimmicky, but it works.

For me, the two things that I like most about it is the brush roll can be turned on/off - I have 50/50 hardwood/carpet/linoleum, so going between them all is easy peasy. I also like having the tools and hose on board. If only I could get a Kirby that would do these two things.....

Biggest cons: 1) It will not clean as well as a canister on bare floors - it works, but not as good as a canister with a good bare floor nozzle. 2) It is heavy, as was mentioned above. It's as heavy as a G-series Kirby, and if your carpet is thick, its a wrestling match to vacuum. 3) Parts for these, for a consumer, are very difficult to source. If you're going to have a Miele, you're almost certainly going to have to have it serviced by a shop. They've definitely done a good job of locking down their parts supply to dealers-only.

So...I was able to get it, kind older gentleman (88 yo), is a talker. He plugged it in and sounded great. He kept his word when he said he would hold it for me and went on to say that there were 5 other calls afterwards for the machine. Paid $10 for it.

Got it home and could not wait to check it out. The cord (meaning entire handle) has 4 electrical tape repairs, the bag holder is a bit bent, the filters need replacing and it smells.

I watched a few videos before I picked it up to get an idea what I am up against.
Worked on wiping down and doing some disinfecting before turning my attention to the "brush-roll".
MAN!....nasty. Let's just say moisture was involved as the bottom plate had rust. The brush "chamber" had a layer of dirt, the opening to the hose was CLOGGED with dirt, fur and basic yuck! So you see, I spent quite a bit to time cleaning and restoring. Got it all put back without disturbing the belt housing and the dangerous timing can of worms.
A small section of the hose looked like someone stepped on it, using a cloth and channel lock pliers, I made quick work of that.

I want to detach the bag chamber cover, the base from the upper body so I can wash that down. Can someone tell me how to do that.

I will pick up a handle with the fused cord this morning.

I need: Bags, filters, but if anyone has an inexpensive bottom plate, please contact me.

Any ideas on the best way to de-stink the machine other than dismantle all I can and wash the washable?

I did some more work on it. I did look at one of the videos before and figured out with a lot of frustration, how to take the bag chamber cover and separate the upper and lower bodies of the vacuum.

I think it was that I removed 2 of 4 the wrong screws. I took two others out before I wrangled the two apart. I dread putting it back. With it out I can now see which screws were the targets.

Today I will wash the bag chamber (yes I removed the air pressure device from the bag chamber cover) and the lower body top cover. I will CAREFULLY wash the bag chamber. I think I have a idea of what and what can not get wet. Following the video, I will let all dry for 48 hours. I will also have to wash the wand and hose.

What I am worried about is the TIMING. I don't have a grasp on what this is all about and I don't think I have done anything to defeat that. We shall see.

Almost done....

I am taking a couple days more to make sure the inside of the hose and wand are thoroughly dry, no surprises.

Replaced filters and added a bag.

I did a test and everything works as designed.

BTW, funny I never mentioned this one is the Salsa.

$60 investment, plus my time and effort. But I enjoyed it all. Too bad this machine was so dirty.

Vacuum Devil, Chicago Mike....anyone??? HELP!

I ended up with these two screws. I have no idea where they go or if they go.

I dismantled to clean the bottom plate and have accounted for 3 large and 3 small screws to hold it in place.

I removed the upper from the lower body, that is 4 large screws (the 2 others I am not supposed to remove) are in place still.

I did take off the top housing cover, where the board w/speed controller are located and that was 2 large screws which I returned to their locations.

I did not do anything else besides pushing the hidden button to pull out the handle.

Where did these two come from? The black screw has a large head that the 3 black screws holding the bottom plate in place. The large silver screw matches the rest of the screws in several places.

Any ideas????

the different black screw likely goes in front of the brush roll cover - 3 screws go there otherwise it is a screw to the motor clamp/brushroll and 2 go there ---- I am assuming this screw is like a T10 torx much smaller then silver screw

the silver screws -- they go everywhere
--If you took the switch/control out of the top of the handle, depending how far you went, there are 6 screws there.
-- there are 4 screws holding handle/body in place (the other 3 there hold other parts of the handle/body together)
-- there are 3 screws in the back part of brush roll cover plate and 3 black different size ones in the front of the plate
