Miele S147 Stick Vac with Power Nozzle

I just picked up a used one, in excellent shape, but on high speed, on low pile carpet that is not glued down, (kinda like a berber style) I find the powerhead just about sticks to the carpet, making it hard to push. It has the SEB 217 powerhead. Is this normal for this powerhead?? The power this unit has for a "stick vac" is phenomenal, I'd say rivaling many full size canisters and uprights. Running the unit on low speed does help, but this defeats the purpose of having powerful performance.

I think you're experiencing normal operating feel for that machine. The upright is heavy in comparison to the wands that attach the nozzle to a canister. Also, the 217 nozzle has tiny wheels and isn't easy to push when it's bearing that much weight. I use that setup, and it works great, even though it's a little more work to push and pull it. The handle is adjustable on that vacuum. I found that I could make it more comfortable by experimenting with different handle lengths. You'll like that vacuum. Don't give up on it.

I was fortunate enough to use a variable speed Miele stick-vac that belongs to Swingette on this forum back in February. I'll have to say, for a stick vac I was pretty impressed with it! I still think they're horribly overpriced, but it was a good machine nonetheless.

I would say that's probably part of your problem... You don't need the machine to be on full speed to be cleaning that low pile carpet effectively. After all, the power nozzle is doing most of the work (whisking up the dirt)--you really don't need a whole lot of suction to carry it the couple of inches up in to the bag. I mostly use high speed on mine when I'm vacuuming bare floor surfaces... otherwise, yes--it can be somewhat difficult to push on carpeting, when on high speed..

Definitely use it on low speed on the carpet. Even on low there is still plenty of power to clean a low pile carpet.
