Yet another new addition to my collection of Mieles. I believe this was the first model of Mieles ever sold in the US from the early 80's. Just goes to show, this Miele is nearly 30 years old, all original, and nothing is broken and it still works and will put most new vacs to shame! In my opinion, there is nothing out there that can come close to Miele in performance, quality, filtration, cleaning ability, resale value, convenience, and looks.

If I recall correctly the current Miele S4's, S5's, and S7's have 140+ CFM and all pull over 100 inches of water. I've heard some theories that the CFM rating was taken with the motor out of the vacuum? Does anybody know if this is true or not? For those of you who repair Mieles regularly, have you ever seen any issues with them besides the older cord winders?

Anybody who is a Miele owner feel free to post pics. I know Edgar has a nice collections of older Mieles. Right now I'm up to 4 of them, and I plan on adding many, many more!

Here's a couple pics of the Miele from the auction. Paid a pretty penny for it but I don't regret it at all. :-)

Alex,

That machine looks almost new!!! Good job. I don't have a Miele. Therefore I didn't post a picture of one. Edgar might have some. Did you try him?

tehehehe.....

Thats a fab machine you've got their, contratulations. I own 2 Miele S5's - and BOL S5210 and the mid-range S5281 Solution (now TOL since we don't have the Revlution anymore). I'm considering getting an S7 after Christmas.

I agree that in terms of the combination of quality and performance, you can't beat a Miele. I love everything about them - how quiet they are, easy to use, great performance. They don't seem very popular here as I don't know many people who own them.

One thing though, I don't like the new HyClean bags at all. They don't seem to unfold properly like the old ones did, so they don't fill up as much as the old style - anybody else had this problem?

Re: CFM ratings...

All companies publish their ratings of their machines at the motor. Some will also post multiple ratings at different parts of the machine, like at the hose coupling or at the end of the hose, but those are more common in the central vac industry.

Any yes, the Miele "Vortex" motors with their nine-bladed tapered fan generate 140 CFM and 111" of waterlift. Much smaller and more powerful than the two-stage Lamb and two-stage Miele motor used in the past.

I've always been a huge Miele fan, ever since I worked at a vac shop Raleigh back in 1985. They brought these machines in and the owners were such hicks they didn't know how to pronounce the name. The husband kept calling it "MEELAY" and the wife called it "MEE-ELL-LAY". Me myself, I never learned how to pronounce the name until I became friends with a vacuum dealer in Houston and he corrected me.

I love the machines. I'm a huge fan of any manufacturer that can maintain standards of efficiency, filtration, and low noise. Although, most people forget that the first few generations of Miele that we saw in North America were neither quiet, nor filter-efficient. What they were was powerful, new, and different. They were "immer besser", tenfold!

I only have one bone to pick with Miele....

Their models seem to be geared more towards contemporary environments, contemporary floor coverings, etc. I have a lot of antique rugs. I'm still trying to find a brush roll configuration that won't beat my rugs to death, yet still cleans thoroughly. Haven't found it yet.

What about a Sebo 220V P/N with the soft bristle roller. On 110V it should turn 1/2 the speed, right?

nice 234

Hi,

Great find, it is original indeed with exeption for the hose. I am not entire sure because perhaps in the us they put this hose with it. I include a pic of a 240i.

234...

wow i remember one of neighbors having an older Miele and they had used everyday, and to this day i don't think they have ever bought an upright vacuum just because they love the Miele that much, i forget the model which is a shame seeing as i used to go over to the guys house everyday when i was the age of ten, and i used to watch him work on his model RC planes in his garage. back then i had a huge fascination for airplanes[i still do] and we would talk for hours on end about planes and what we liked and disliked about various types, and there his wife would be vacuuming the floors with they're miele. i miss visiting with him and i miss the vacuum a lot as well. anyway i hope you see years of reliable use out of that vacuum.

Miele SEB 228...

This powerhead is supposed to be released here in the North American market soon. It looks somewhat similar to the discontinued SEB 224.

The 228 is meant to take a spot between the currently available SEB 217 and 236. It is larger in size and more agressive than the 217. It also has a six position height adjustment, as well as a quick release.

Hopefully it will be more rug friendly than the 236

I liked the 224. The only drawback was the flat belt that stretched so easily. I just don't understand the 236 with those stubby stiff short bristles. It's not friendly to berber carpeting or to older rugs. I'll look forward to seeing the 228 when it's available.
